2 weeks later
"we are late as fuck" i said as amauri started to park
"bruh. no we not, we right on time"
"your mom said three, it's seven. how is that on time?"
"are you not black? you know damn well that three don't mean three"
"but it also don't mean four hours later, this why we will never get better with time"
"she'll be aight, she knew i was gon' be at work till five"
"speaking of, you never even answered my question when i asked, why're you even working today?"
"'cus a holiday don't stop the grind. these be the most important days honestly. everyone tryna get a fresh cut before they head to their cookouts. you should know, you had me line you up this morning"
"well that's different, you knocked me up. you owe me"
"here we go again" he said rolling his eyes
i plan on using that line for at least the next eighteen years, so he better get used to it.
"oh and before we go up in there, you know half my family trini, and my uncle tommy, he's still a lil...old fashioned so—"
"so he don't fuck with the batty boys is what you're saying?"
"not our term, but sure. i mean he know better than to say shit to me 'bout it, so he won't bother you. and the whole family will get on his case if he does. but just putting that out there, just in case shit pop off, you not in the blind"
"anything else i needa know?"
"yeah actually. my mom will either fuck with you heavy or tell you to your face that she don't like you, no in between. but she seemed to be feeling you while y'all was on facetime so you should be good"
i'm lowkey regretting agreeing to meet his family now, but it's kinda too late to change my mind. also he wants us to get to know each others families before i have to go into hiding then have a whole ass kid. and this lil thing inside of me is growing at a fast rate, so in about a month i'll look like i have a beer belly. it's really now or never.
"what did you tell her that i was to you?" i asked "since we not boyfriends"
"i told her that we vibing and that i'm feeling you, didn't really give her a title"
i nodded. i just needa know in case someone asks.
"you ready?" he asked
"i could really use a shot right now" i expressed
or a blunt.
"damn, too bad" he said sarcastically then opened his door to get out
the neighborhood was packed, i guess from everyone having their own cookouts and stuff, so we had to park a few blocks down from his moms house. it wasn't extremely far but it was a walk.
