"you have one more hour till your birthday's over" zaniyah said turning her phone around to show us the time

"you're a hater" amauri said before laughing

"um excuse me. his birthday's not over till i say it's over, okay? thank you" i added on

"whatever" she said then looked back up to the stars

while we were having dinner zaniyah came up to the roof and set up a little picnic i guess you could call it. she brought up some lawn chairs, blankets, a telescope, a speaker, some games, snacks and some liquor.

i'm not sure if we're even supposed to be up here—scratch that. i know we're not supposed to be up here, but we've been for almost three hours now and nobody has said anything to us.

"y'all believe in horoscopes?" she asked before passing the blunt to amauri

the two were high out of their minds right now. mood.

i'm technically not even supposed to be next to them due to second-hand smoking, but they've made effort to blow the other way. plus we're outside so i haven't really been inhaling much, if anything at all.

"nah" amauri answered

"that i expected. how 'bout you sev?"

"i dunno. i don't believe that being born on a specific day determines your personality. however, some of the shit be adding up. a lot of the cancers i know are two-faced"

"babe, that's gemini's" she said before laughing

"same difference" i shrugged

"no, no it's not" amauri said shaking his head

"yeah whatever"

"i believe in them to an extent. like you said, i don't think being born on a specific date makes you act the way you do. but also at the same time there are certain things that makes sense" she explained

i don't know, i think a lot of it's bullshit. i feel like we purposely seek certain traits in a person to make them apply. it also pisses me off when people won't give you a chance solely based off your sign. not all libra men are toxic, but try telling that to a girl who got all the stones and their lil charts. they not hearing that.

"are you religious amauri?" zaniyah then asked

oh. this will be interesting.

"i would think so. i mean i grew up in church, my dukes and hers would always have me up in there. haven't really been goin' much in my adult life but i still believe. i don't think physically being in church changes what your relationship with God is"

"but doesn't the bible say the opposite, or am i mistaken? correct me if i'm wrong because that's not my religion so i don't know"

"i mean...technically yes, you're right. but the bible isn't really what i go off of. i know my God and i'm sure he knows where i stand with him"
