Kiyotaka POV (classroom):

As I shifted my gaze to the right, I noticed Hirata and Takazaki exiting the classroom and making their way towards the club fair. Meanwhile, Horikita's eyes were fixed on Takazaki's back. Although not in the least romantically, it was clear that she was intrigued by him.

Undoubtedly, his confrontation with Chiyabashira-sensei had left a lasting impression on the majority of students in our class. Takazaki had certainly gained a lot of attention since yesterday. However, based solely on his appearance, he didn't seem to stand out as much as Hirata and Kushida did.

I haven't interacted with him directly as of yet. Maybe he is someone I can be friends with in the future. I am not sure. For now, I focussed my attention towards Horikita.

"You could have gone with him, you know. Why did you refuse him?"

"Why is there even a need for me to go when I have no interest in clubs?" She replied.

"Why you ask? Even if you aren't interested, that doesn't mean you won't join any, right?"

"You're now merely picking at straws. Don't debate only for the sake of debate."

"Not good, huh?"

Now that I think about it, It wouldn't be too surprising for her to seek admission to this institution for the sake of higher education or to secure a job. However, it is unfortunate that she showed no apparent interest in making friends or joining a club.

"*Sigh*... Honesty, you are no different from Takazaki-kun." Horikita said, exasperated.

"Why so?" Curious, I asked.

"What I am trying to say is that since both of you do not have any close companions, you are always seeking opportunities to connect with others and establish new relationships." she clarified."Just now, you were trying to ask me to go with you, weren't you?" It wasn't a surprise for me to hear her say that since I already knew that she was quite sharp.

"Well, you aren't wrong."

"Since you don't have any friends, you are trying to go to the club fair on the pretext of making connection with people."

Wait, was I that easy to read?

"It does hurt to admit, but you are right about me having no friends. Since, I pretty much failed at making friends on the first day of the school, I thought this was a last chance for me." I said. "But hey, I can talk to you just fine."

"Don't consider me as one of your friends, Ayanokoji-kun. You are making the same mistake as Takazaki-kun." She stated firmly.

"I-I see."

I was disappointed to hear her words since I had started to see her as a potential friend, but it seemed that she didn't share my ideals.

"Now that I think about it, why don't you both become friends with one other," she suggested. Given all the criticisms she had thrown my way about being a loner, I found it a little unexpected that she was suggesting I make friends with someone. No, If I give it some careful thought, I believe she is still making fun of me.

"Ah. He's a little difficult for me to talk to." To be honest, I don't have anything against him. He just seems a little difficult to approach, that's all. Even while he shares several traits with me that make him seem unsociable, I lack his capacity to speak openly with anybody.

"I see. That's too bad."

"So do you want to come with me to the fair?" I asked.

"Tell me something Ayanokoji-kun, since you apparently want to go find out about the clubs, do you intend to join one?" she asked.
