Max's POV
2014
-Don't you have to go back to your room?- it was getting kind of late and we had a race tomorrow after all.
She turns to look at me leaning on the railing of the balcony of my hotel room, the night wind made her brown hair float around behind her.
-Do you want me to go that much, Verstappen?- she teased, knowing full well how to push my buttons.
-Don't call me that Ave, you know I hate it.- I tell her throwing her a pillow. She caught it mid-flight, throwing it back at me.
-My father won't notice where I am, he thinks I'm already sleeping.- she enters the room again to sit on the small couch next to the bed.
-Okay- I didnt want her to go either way.
-Okay then.- she was hugging her knees with her chin resting on them, she was wearing the pajamas she always brought to race weekends, she said that they brought her luck.
-I don't want the season to end.- her eyebrows got closer together looking at me with a funny expression.
-Are you afraid that I will beat you tomorrow or what? Come on Maxie, the break will be fun too, you could come home with me for a couple of weeks.
Yeah, sure, because explaining to my father why I want to go to Canada for two weeks would be a great idea.
-Of course, because my father would be so happy that I stop training for two weeks to go with you.
-It won't be that long anyway. Just a couple of months and we can always call each other.- Too much time. Far too long away from her.
-I wish I didnt have to go back.- I rest my head on the bed frame and the room falls silent, only broken by the hum of the TV on a random channel.
-Hey, has something happened?- she got up from the chair where she was and went to the bed, sitting cross-legged infront of me.
-He's just...too much, you know?
-Oh believe me, I know.- she said with a laugh.
That made me feel even worse. Not that my father is nice to anyone, but he has never liked Avery for some reason, since the karting days, he always loathed her the most.
-Sometimes I wish I wasn't here, you know? Have another family, another life, other goals.- I try to explain.
-I don't believe you really feel that way.-the fingers of her hand brushed against mine. I entwined our fingers and brought her hand up to my lips to kiss it.
-It's true! There's too much pressure and that's only going to increase as the years go by.
-Maxie look at me.- she lifted my chin making me look into her eyes, bright and full of illusion, just like the first day I saw them.- We are living our dream! Don't tell me this wasn't what you wanted since you were a kid because I won't believe it.
-I wish this wasnt what I wanted.
-Well, I'm grateful that this is exactly what I've always wanted to do, and I'm glad that this is also what you've always wanted because I met you here. -Her fingers brushed the strands of hair that fall into my forehead, longer than I was used to because I couldn't cut it before coming here. I lowered my head to look at our still clasped hands.
-I'm glad you're my teammate.
-You're literally the most talented driver I've ever come across Max.
-You are also the most talented driver I have ever met Avery.
-Imagine what we could both do in F1, I'm looking forward to the end of the season because that means the next one will be closer.- I guess that's a nice way to look at things.
-Do you think we will both make it to F1?- a grin appeared on her face, the little dimple that appears on her left cheek every time she smiles that big, appearing.
-We're going to win it all Max, I'm sure of it. We're gonna make history.- she's so sure of it. I wanted to believe it. I wanted it to be true.
I take a lock of her hair and pass it behind her ear, taking advantage of the gesture to leave my hand on her cheek, caressing it gently.
-Liefje- I breathe out.
She squeezes my wrist gently and takes my hand away from her cheek. She gets on her knees on the bed holding on to my shoulders and slides one of her legs over mines, sitting on my lap.
-Kus me- she said, trying her best to copy my Dutch accent but failing in an extremely heartwarming way. My hands had traveled to her hips stabilizing her over me.
I don't waste a second, I cup her cheeks and gently close the gap between us. She tugs at my shirt, making us cling to each other even more and my heart is pounding so hard it feels like it's going to jump out of my chest.
I will never get tired of this.
-Mijn liefste- I say in between kisses- jij bent mijn zonneschijn.
She pulls apart with a huge smile. Her cheeks are flushed and from here I can see the green flashes between the brown of her eyes.
-What does that mean? You haven't taught me that one yet.- she asked curious.
Her hair is disheveled, my hands must have gotten lost in it at some point. I imagine that mine must be the same, with the thing she has for tugging at it whenever we lost ourselves in eachother
-My love- I kiss the curve of her neck, moving up kiss after kiss until I reach her ear.- you are my sunshine.
-Mijn zonneschijn- she repeated, making my heart flip inside my chest.
My sunshine.
I don't want this to ever end.
