Avery's POV
Max and I went into a cycle for the next several weeks. We didn't exchange a word inside the circuit, at most the odd sneaky comment here and there at the worst moments possible to see how much the other could blush without people noticing.
Exchanging the highest step on the podium week after week, being the one who wins that week the one with bragging rights until the next one.
They were being good weeks, very, very good. But I couldnt push the feeling that everything would fall apart at any moment. We had not talked about it, after dinner that night at his house neither of us saw the strength to start the discussion.
None wanted to adress the elephant in the room. So I decided to ignore it, focus on the minute by minute trying not to get lost along the way.
But it was so complicated, Max was so complex. He was able to change his attitude in seconds depending on where he was, always leaving me confused. But then the Max that I only saw behind closed doors appeared.
That was my favorite Max.
The attentive Max who did not miss any detail about how I am feeling but always forgets to turn off the lights of the house when going to sleep.
The Max who wakes me up every morning we spend together with kisses all over my face because he knows they tickle me. The one who hums songs while he cooks because he thinks I am not listening.
The Max who can spend hours talking about why he likes the shower gel in my house more than his but refuses to buy it for himself.
Or the one capable of saying things that make my heart stop as if it were the most normal thing in the world for him.
But it was going out into the outside world and that Max disappeared. That's why it made me so uneasy. Because I didn't know which one the real Max was.
-Not in the elevator.- I say when I see the smirk that is drawn on his lips as soon as the doors are closed.
He cups my cheek and leaves a kiss on my lips.
-You should thank me for not doing it earier in the cool down room.
He brought me closer to him by the waist, his kisses traveling down my jaw, sucking in the sweet spot behind my ear.
I push him away just as the elevator doors open, an Alpha Tauri mechanic walking in.
We both stood at the end of the elevator facing the door, his hand sneaking up under my shirt and up my back until he reached the clasp of my bra, undoing it in quick a moment.
-Max!- I hiss.
The mechanic turned to look at us and I gave him tight a smile. His gaze passed between us confused until he finally turned back to the door.
Thankfully he got off on the next floor, I let out a breath that I didn't know I was holding and claspped the bra again.
-You looked so hot on that podium.- I don't look at him. I told him no funny business out of the room because of things like this.
His hand reached for mine but I didn't let him take it.
-Does it turn you on when I win?- I tease him.
His hand approached mine again, this time linking his pinkie with mine. He seemed satisfied with the contact obtained.
-I wanted to rip off that suit
How long does this elevator take to go up?
-It does turn you on to see me win!- I look at him out of the corner of my eye and see how he shakes his head trying to hold back his smile.
