Max's POV

A P3 start was not ideal but it wasnt that bad either. I knew there was a possibility for Avery to be in front of me after the pace that she had been having this weekend, I had psyched myself up for it. What I hadn't prepared for was that Lewis was going to do so well in qualifying too, getting ahead of us both. Simply lovely.

So today I start from the second row with George next to me. It will not be an easy start, that is clear.

I squeeze the steering wheel between my hands, staring at the traffic light. Light. Light. Light. Light. Lights out. I put the accelerator to the floor.

I keep George behind and try to overtake Avery, I can't get to her. I see how in the third turn she has already overtaken Lewis. She's unleashed. I stick as close as I can to Lewis's car, trying not to lose pace.

It took me fifteen laps to overtake Lewis, taking advantage of the fact that his tires are working worse than mine.

-Gap to Stroll?- I ask GP.

-Four seconds. She's four seconds ahead.- I hear him through the radio.

Okay, four seconds, not too bad.

Four more laps and it doesn't look like I'm getting any closer.

-Gap?

-Six seconds.

What is she doing to go so fast?!

A couple more laps, just a little over ten laps from the end and...

-Red flag Max. Red flag.- GP warned me through the radio.

-What happened?-Avery was still ahead and I couldn't see anything in my mirrors.

-Lots of gravel in turn four, a crash between the Haas there.

I return to the pit and they place us waiting for the race to start again. We can change the tires so that benefits us a lot, not having to risk wasting time with Avery pitting. I stay inside the car, not wanting to lose concentration.

I watch as Avery talks animatedly to one of her mechanics in front of me. She was drinking from her bottle with her suit unzipped tied around her waist, she looked carefree. Suddenly our eyes meet and for a second I see how her smile falters. It's all a facade, she's nervous. She's never been this close to victory after all.

The start is going to be repeated, this time I start next to Avery. I know that if I don't overtake her on the first lap, she will slip away. So I have to give it my all. I need to win this race.

Light. Light. Light. Light. Lights out. Full throttle and I try to win the line from Avery, but she was faster. She was ahead of me on every one of my movements, It's like she knew what I was going to do in every turn.

I didn't pass her on the first lap so I'll have to do it on the second, hoping she doesn't go too far.

I decide to attack in the next corner, it's now or never. I take the risk of assuming that Avery will leave the inside free, she did it on the previous lap so I take the opportunity to try to get a gap now.
