September 11
I groaned as I'm shaken awake. I try going back under the covers, but the knowledge of having someone in your house, was enough to make my eyes peel open.
"What are you doin here?" I squinted at Thomas as he smiled at me.
"Rise and shine butterfly. I just came by to check on you." I slowly sat up and yawned. My back ached and so did my arms.
"How'd you get in my house?" I walk toward my desk and searches through my scattered papers.
"And have you been searching through my stuff?" I look back at Thomas and see him toying with my musicbox.
"Hey, when did you get this? Don't remember this from yesterday." I snatched the box away from him and hid it in my closet.
"Doesn't matter. Just answer my question. How'd you get in my house and have you been searching through my stuff?" Thomas avoids eye contact as he tried coming up with an excuse.
"Uh, your door was unlocked. Thought you were awake." I suspected something, but I let it go. I turned back to my desk and searched for the specific paper I needed.
"Funny, I made sure to double check if the doors were locked. Guess I was too tired yesterday and left the front door unlocked. Anyways, did you search through my things?" This time Thomas doesn't make up an excuse.
"Yes and I think you don't need to get involved in this. It happened six years ago! It's old news. What if the culprit was already found?" I wasn't really paying attention as I continued on my search for the paper. Finally my fingers pulled on the corner of the list of suspects.
"To my knowledge it has been a couple of years, but the culprit hasn't been found. Now tell me, is there any other reason for why you might want me to stop investigating?" Thomas winced and I knew I caught him red-handed.
"Fine. Yes, there's another reason. It's just, how can you think I was a suspect!?" I shook my head and grabbed a stack of my clothes from off my bed. I passed by Thomas and went into the bathroom.
From behind the door I spoke."Thomas I don't care if you don't like your name being on the list. Just go." I heard shuffling from behind the door and I quickly changed into my clothes. I peeked from behind the door and saw Thomas sitting on my bed.
"Didn't I tell you to leave?!" I walked into the room and grabbed my bag.
"I'll leave if you promise to stop." I screamed out in frustration.
"I don't have time for this. Just go." Thomas pulled me in close and I struggled against his hold.
"I told you I'll only leave if you stop." I stopped struggling.
"Look, I'm not going to stand around and do nothing. I won't be the damsel in distress anymore. You can't tell me what to do." I pushed away from Thomas, recollected myself, and walked out of the house.
As I made my way to Gerald's house, I thought about the argument I had with Thomas. I knew that I broke whatever bond we had, but I could fix it later. After I knew for sure who killed Harry...and why.
