I was staring at a group of four boys. They looked like clones with their dangerous appearances, but they were not like my other classmate who had called me "Paki boy." These guys were all wearing leather jackets, which was the only thing that made them stand out from the rest of the students beside their dangerous aura. I was paralyzed when I saw how they were treated like kings by my fellow students. These guys did not wait in line; because they had students who would do "The dirty" work for them and go get their lunch.
"Zayn you are staring!" Louise whispered to me, but I could not take my eyes off them since I was amazed by how they could gain so much popularity. "Louise, I want to be like them," I said totally determined. "No, you do not!" she kept on whispering. "Why, I mean what is your problem with them anyway?" I questioned even though it wasn't any of my business.
"Fine! Look I will explain everything you need to know tomorrow after school." She said as she withdrew her book from her bag and started drawing patterns on her book. Even though I hadn't known her for long, I was pretty good with reading people. For instance I knew this was her way of ignoring people and hide her emotions. I felt like I already knew Louise, and I knew she had a story.
I was on my way home from school, when I suddenly heard someone yelling after me; "Hey Zayn, I forgot to give this to you." I spun around quickly and saw Louise come running towards me. She handed me a piece of paper.
"You are giving me a piece of paper?" I asked confused as I slowly put it in my pocket. "It's my address, dummy!" She responded, while trying to catch her breath. "Come over to my place tomorrow after school and I will tell you everything." I looked at her without responding.
As I tried intensely to read her face expression still giving no answer, it only created an awkward silence between us. "Don't worry I won't bite, Zayn," she said to break the awkward silence between us as she laughed out loud.
I smiled as the thought ran through my head remembering how sweet and nice she had been to me. I thought she liked me, but could she really have a crush on me in one day? Or was it just me who wasn't used to people acting like this? "Well, I will see you tomorrow then," she said to get me back to reality "Oh, yeah bye Louise," I responded with a helium voice that made me blush. She winked from a long distance and disappeared between two blocks near the school.
The thought of me having survived the first day of school gave me a smile on my face, and the fact that I had gotten a friend already from day one was a miracle. Louise was so sweet and actually not bad looking with her green eyes and blonde hair. I could not get the thought of her having a crush on me out of my head, but I must be insane anyway with such a crazy thought.
"Hey mom," I said as I took my jacket off and gave her a kiss on her cheek. "So, how was your day Zayn? Did you make any friends?" My mother asked curiously. "It was fine, and yeah I have one friend now," I answered happily. "Good, what is his name?" She casually asked to keep the conversation going. "It's a she and her name is Louise," I responded little embarrassed that I didn't make any guy- friends.
I could suddenly hear my sisters running down the stairs like idiots. "Lol Zayn, you have a girlfriend already?" They all said at the same time, which was kinda scary - my sisters always did that.
"She is a friend!" I replied annoyed and went up the stairs to get away from their stupid questions. "Mom, I think Zayn is a girl; I mean living in a house filled with girls and now his only friend is a girl too!" I heard my older sister Doniya state as I went to my bedroom. I sighed loudly. Normally it was girls who complained about their brothers, but I was the one complaining about my sisters.
The second day of school had the same routine like the day before; lessons, break and then lessons again. But the thought of Louise who wanted to tell me everything at her place after school was constantly on my mind. What was everything? And what was her story about the group? Louise did not appear to the last lesson and I knew that I had to find out where she lived all by myself.
