Sorry it's late! I had a busy day yesterday and forgot.
There's a lil sexy scene in the middle of this chapter btw, I'm not sure what I can post with Wattpad guidelines so it's PG.
Enjoy!
I clung to Knife as we left the diner and held my hand over my bloated stomach.
After Shelby fled from the diner crying, it took a while for the atmosphere to relax again. Knife had relaxed enough for me to stop being on edge, but I kept waiting for her to come back with a bunch of other people to teach Knife a lesson.
She had looked at him first with wariness but then with such admiration it made me a little sick. She didn't just get that from knowing him when he was little, she knew more about his recent developments than she let on.
I bet my next passing assignment that she knew a few bikers from a different MC or at least a few low-level criminals. There was no way she was that forthcoming with Knife without having been around at least a few dangerous people in the past. You had to warm yourself up to Knife, speaking directly to Knife without having to bad men before was like eating the hottest pepper on Earth after only trying a mild curry once before.
Still, I couldn't shake the uneasy feeling settling deep into my stomach that something was going to happen. Shelby seemed like a woman who knew what she wanted and what she wanted, she got.
Knife stopped suddenly and tipped my chin to face him. The others walked on, leaving us a moment of privacy.
"Stop worrying in that pretty head of yours, sugar." Knife said softly. "That bitch may be dumb but she's smart enough to know not to come back anywhere near us, you hear?"
I gnawed at my lip and tried to let his words soothe me as they usually did but something felt wrong.
"I have that bad feeling, Knife. Remember the one I got when Joker and Artist went on that run and then had their bikes shot at? That feeling."
He sighed and kissed my forehead.
"I'm not going to say that nothing's going to happen, there are too many people out there who have something against the club to not try something, but no harm will come to any of the people you care about." He brushed his thumb against my lips lightly. "I promise."
I sucked in a deep breath and nodded my head. I did trust Knife to make sure everyone was safe. God help anyone who tried to cause me or him any harm, they would be strung up in the basement before they could even utter the first letter of their apology.
"You guys coming?" Evelyn called out, one foot already in her car. Elliot was sat in the driver's seat while Lana and Kyle were sat in the back. I could see her body shaking from here.
Knife jerked his head in a nod and gently pulled me towards his car. He opened the passenger door for me and after murmuring a thank you, I slid into the seat and immediately buckled myself in.
Knife tried to control his driving when I was in the car because it scared the shit out of me, but it was liking asking a dragon to blow out a little fire. Possible sometimes but most of the time the fire was blazing everything in its path.
Once he was sure I had my seatbelt on, he sped out of the parking lot like a bat out of hell.
"You really don't care about speed limits or safety, do you?" My last words ended in a squeal as he took a sharp turn that made it feel as if we were on a roller coaster. His hand landed on my thigh, and he threw a smirk my way.
"Baby, you know I'd never let anything happen to you. I'm wounded." I rolled my eyes at his teasing; he was always in a better mood when he was speeding through the streets in his car. I was not.
