It was cold that morning on the beach, the waves crashing violently against the sand. Almost like the ocean knew what day it was in four. But Willow sat staring out into the never ending sea, thinking about the reaping. It was her time, she knew it was, hell even her parents knew. But she wasn't scared like most would be, she was accepting of it, welcoming it with open arms. She was prepared for this moment ever since the reaping for the 64th annual Hunger Games, the day her little brother was reaped, her last remaining sibling. The day she vowed for revenge against the people that took her family from her, against the Capitol.
Her father, Alexander Kincaid used to work in the capitol, one of the many peacekeepers in Snows mansion. But when a riot started in four and the peacekeepers were sent to tame the people, he met Eden White, her mother. He was infatuated the the fiery girl from four, and eventually she fell for him too. He requested to be transferred to district four in order to be with his love, but Snow being Snow was less than pleased with that request. He gave Alexander an ultimatum, stay in the capitol and never have to worry about anything or move to four and deal with rules and regulations they have, including the reaping. He ultimately chose to go to four to be with Eden no matter the cost. So her parents waited for years for the wrath Snow would unleash on to them but nothing came. So they relaxed and settled down in four, having kids in the nature of being in love. And when their first child turned 12 they realized that Snow didn't forget about them, as their first born was reaped. The rest of the Kincaid kids following the same fate.
Willow remember her siblings reaping days vividly, like a nightmare playing on repeat. First her older brother Ren, he was 12 his first reaping, Willow was 7. She can still hear her mothers screams and her fathers pleas, he died in the bloodbath. Her older sister Fernly was next, 4 years later at 14. That's when the Kincaid parent knew that is was there punishment for going against Snow. Fernly surprisingly did well during the week before the games, she was a capitol favorite, sweet, beautiful little girl who made the capitols citizens adore her. But she was on the younger side of the tributes that year, she only made it to the third day, when the careers found and tortured her in their own sadistic way. By the time the 64th Hunger Games had rolled around they all thought it would be willows turn next as she was the oldest one left, but that would be to easy wouldn't it. Her younger brother Carter happened to obtain that fate at his very first reaping. That was the day Willow lost all of her hope, it was her turn, her turn to be reaped not his. It wasn't right, it was supposed to be her. Carter, her little brother, a pure soul put in an arena with other kids to fight to the death. She remembers watching the 64th Hunger Games, it had just started, when he made it out the bloodbath unharmed Willow was so relieved, but not to long after the careers found him. And just like her sister, they tortured him for hours, taking turns stabbing, beating and mutilating him, until he finally passed away from loss of blood. It was the most brutal death they'd seen in many years, and god Willow was so angry. Why? Why couldn't they just kill him quickly, there was no need for excess violence, especially towards a child. That was the day she vowed revenge toward everyone that wronged her.
Willow was so lost in the past she hadn't noticed the sun rising over the sea and the tide brushing her feet. When she finally came to, she realized was crying, she hadn't done that since her brother died, completely shutting off and preparing for her plan. She quickly wiped away the tears as if not to seem weak but there was no one around anyway. She got up, brushed away the sand on her skirt and slowly started making her way back to her home to finish up anything she needed done before she left. But as she was walking back towards town, someone was walking was away from it, towards the beach. It was still quite early, so Willow was surprised to see anyone else. As the stranger was growing closer she realized it wasn't actually a stranger, it was Finnick Odair, the winner of the 65th Hunger games. He won the year after her brother was reaped, youngest ever at 14. But at the reminder of her brother she was lost in memories of him as she passed the young, not paying any attention to how he stared after her as she made her way back the town.
