SANYU BEIFONG, one of the last airbenders, only knows how to fly using a glider. Though capable of airbending, she keeps her abilities hidden, haunted by childhood nightmares. Her family is the only one aware of her secret, and she prefers it that way. Sometimes, overwhelmed by the weight of her past, she wishes she could disappear.
Sanyu's life is far from peaceful, burdened with confusion, fear, and the pain of her father's absence during her darkest days. The very element she controls almost took her life once, showing her its destructive power and making her fear what she might become. Seeking solace in an uncertain relationship, she struggles to find peace.
As a police officer in Republic City, Sanyu's life is complicated further by the unexpected arrival of Avatar Korra. Despite the challenges Korra brings, Sanyu feels an inexplicable urge to protect her. Korra's presence stirs something within Sanyu, offering a glimmer of hope and a chance to confront the pain and sorrow she's been carrying for so long.
And maybe, just maybe, Sanyu has found her person in Korra. She just doesn't realize it yet──not until she's on the brink of losing her other half.

However, beneath her mask, she conceals her own pain and misery, wondering how long she can keep it up before it crumbles.
