tired

I gulp down words like wine
Treacherous tread through forest of thoughts
(Wait, stay, come back)

Father, Brother, Lover

I'm tired of being a woman
Of longing my whole life, of waiting, grasping at empty air
Of looking over my shoulder
Clutching my arms around me like armor

Friend, Hunter, Abuser

All faces look the same in retrospect
(I'm sorry, let me go, please stop)
Knees bruised always, scraping the floor
Bathroom tiles smooth and cold
Mirror never showing the same person twice

God, Saviour, Mother

Who will I be in ten years? Never the girl I wished to protect
Sweet summer child, golden laughter lost over years
I gulp these words down instead of screaming out
I would burn this world to be that little girl again
