It's normal to hear yelling and an occasional gunshot now and then while walking to school. The violence nowadays comes primarily from the gang that moved to San Francisco about 2 years ago.

When the gang moved up, San Francisco became the #1 crime hotspot in America. That's why my mother and I live here. Because she gets more cases here than she would anywhere else.

When I finally arrived at school, the first thing I was greeted with was the face of the richest girl in our school, Oakley.

"So what's on your list today Mara? Be an outcast? Cry yourself to sleep in the middle of class?" She hissed, "You certainly have nothing better to do with your miserable little life. You don't even have any friends."

"Oh, come on already Oakley. Tell me something original. Something that I've never heard before. It's always the same thing from you. 'Your life is miserable!' and 'You have no friends!' and 'Oh my god it would be so sad if I were you!'" I mocked, "You honestly can't talk about me like that when you haven't even looked in a mirror. I guarantee that every single person in your group is only sucking up to you to avoid being humiliated by you because you are too self-absorbed to be a decent human being."

Everyone in the courtyard stared at the situation in awe. Everyone had their phone's out, ready to record whatever was going to happen next.

"Excuse me?" she spits. The scornful look on her face was enough to make a grown man scared.

"You're excused," I said with a smirk.

She turned around and stormed out of the courtyard. I assumed she went to go and tattle-tell on me to the principal like she usually does when she doesn't get her way.
