An ear-piercing silence enveloped the area, thick and suffocating, as if the very air had conspired against them. Yn’s heart pounded in her chest, each beat a reminder of the void bleeding within her. Then, unexpectedly, a laugh erupted from her—sharp and manic, echoing off the cold metal railing. Her laughter was laced with a bitter edge, tears streaming down her bloodshot eyes, glistening like shattered glass.
“She’s scared of heights,” Yn managed between fits of laughter, her voice trembling, “but I’ll die…”
Taehyung frowned, the corners of his mouth tightening as he turned his back on her. His frown deepened unable to meet her gaze any longer. A heavy weight settled on his chest, as if a colossal rock had lodged itself there, squeezing the breath from his lungs. The rawness of her words struck him like a physical blow, each syllable reverberating in the silence that followed. He had never felt such a torrent of emotions before—guilt, despair, and a crushing sense of helplessness.
“They just want money. You’ll be fine,” he said hoarsely, his voice barely above a whisper, yet firm with conviction. He clung to that belief as if it were a lifeline. He had been so sure he could save her. After all, he was Taehyung—the man who always found a way. He would ensure that nothing would happen to her. He had made promises, and he would uphold them. But with each passing moment, that certainty slipped through his fingers like sand yet he refused to let fear take root in his heart. He had people waiting at the entrance, a plan in motion. He wouldn’t let them take her away. He couldn’t. There were guards stationed all over the building, a buffer between her and the chaos that lurked beyond. She will be fine.
But the words felt hollow, echoing in the void between them. Yn’s laughter faded, replaced by a heavy silence that engulfed them both. It was a silence filled with dread, the kind that made the air thick and hard to breathe. Yn’s expression shifted, her eyes hollow and devoid of light, as she bore into him with an intensity that made his stomach churn. “What if their intention is to kill me?” Her tone was eerily flat, devoid of the manic energy that had characterized her laughter moments before. She looked at him with a painful smile etched across her features. “Taehyung… I’m still pregnant. Do you understand that the choice you’re making could cost me my life and the life of our baby?”
The man paused, his jaw tightening as he fought against the wave of emotion threatening to overwhelm him. “No,” he gritted through clenched teeth, determination hardening his voice. “I’ll definitely save you—just not now.” The weight of his promise hung heavily in the air as he repeated, “Trust me, Yn. I won’t let you die.”
Yn remained silent, her lips pressed together in a thin line, the words unspoken but echoing in the void between them. A hollow ache spread through her chest as she turned inward, consumed by a sense of loss and despair. She felt a deep sorrow for herself, for the life growing inside her, one she hadn’t even been able to look at. Memories of her brother, Roger, flickered through her mind, a fleeting image of his innocent face.
