Ella sneered, her lips curling in contempt. “You think too highly of him.” The secretary’s face paled, and she dropped all pretense, her voice shaking as she pleaded, “I beg you, please! If you leave now, I’ll die a terrible death…”
Ella’s expression remained cold and unmoved. She flung the woman’s hand away with a sharp jerk. “That has nothing to do with me,” she snapped, her eyes gleaming with the memory of how this very woman had ruthlessly thrown her under the bus before. Why should she respond to her pleas now, after everything? There was no sympathy left in her for someone who had treats woman like trash.
With that, she turned on her heel, determined to leave this suffocating room behind. But before she could make it to the door, a stern male voice echoed across the room, distinctly displeased. “Why aren’t you accompanying Mr. Kim? Where do you think you’re going?”
Ella’s shoulders tensed, but she didn’t turn around. Instead, she ignored him and quickened her pace, her footsteps growing louder with each step as she headed toward the exit.
The man’s face twisted with annoyance. He stood abruptly, his chair scraping against the floor, his eyes narrowing as if preparing to chase after her. But just as he took his first step, something flickered in his mind. He hesitated, turning his head ever so slightly to glance at Taehyung.
Taehyung’s tall, commanding figure was half-shrouded in the dim light, the darkness wrapping around him like a cloak. His luxurious dress pants hugged his long legs, while the faint glow from a lit cigarette in his hand flickered, casting fleeting shadows over his sharp features. He seemed so out of place here, as though someone of his stature didn’t belong among the ordinary. And yet, at the same time, he appeared to be the unchallenged lord of the room, reigning over it all. Everyone present was beneath him, mere pawns in his domain.
His expression, however, remained unreadable. His dark eyes, sharp as ever, tracked Ella’s every movement with a quiet intensity. There was something unnerving in his gaze—something dangerous, possessive, that seemed to speak without words. It was that look that made the man hesitate, his earlier frustration suddenly tempered by the realization that Taehyung’s silence wasn’t permission to act recklessly. He wasn’t someone you could cross, not even unintentionally.
Sensing Taehyung wasn’t going to intervene, the man swiftly altered his approach. “Since you got the wrong person…” he said smoothly, his eyes gleaming with malice as he shifted his attention to the secretary. Without warning, he grabbed a fistful of her hair, yanking her up from the ground and throwing her onto the nearby couch. She yelped in pain, her eyes wide with fear as he loomed over her.
