Summer, 1991; Ember Swan

Is it the girl?" The leering voice of Severus Snape sneered in the darkness of Albus Dumbledore's study.

A single light from a wand lit of the newspaper article, as the two wizards studied the girl on the front page.

"It is her. I wouldn't expect anyone else to be the daughter of Marlene" the kindly voice of Dumbledore hummed as he looked yet again at the terrified face of Ember Swan, staring directly at them through the camera. Snape examined the girl with his domineering eyes. It was true. No one else could be the daughter of Sirius and Marlene. It simply wasn't possible.

"But she was dead...we found no body -"

"And that is the great mystery of it all", Dumbledore hummed as he then proceeded to tuck the article into his desk drawer.

"It seems we'll be having two interesting students this year Severus," he smiled calmly and Snape quickly glanced at the recently written letter to Harry James Potter. His eyes narrowed at the mention of the boy and turned back to the headmaster.

"Are we to tell her of her parents?" he questioned, the sneer in his voice still evident. Dumbledore sat there a moment, his eyes in quizzical thought.

"No. The girl mustn't know...not yet".

"The girl will not like it -"

"It is for her own good, and when the time is right, we will tell her the truth. But for now...we must pretend we know nothing of a Miss Ember Swan," the elderly wizard finished and added a flick with the emerald ink to the 'e' of his name. Snape watched with a debating look as Dumbledore sealed the letter with the hot, scarlet wax.

"To St.Claire's Children's Home" the wizard smiled as the bird took flight into the starry, night sky.
