Autumn, 1991; The Wizard's Duel

You're joking!"

By dinnertime, Harry had finished telling Ron and Ember everything that happened after he'd left the grounds with Professor McGonagall. The outcome of their conversation was definitely not expected.

"Seeker? But first years never make the house team!" Ron added, just as impressed with the whole situation as Ember and in fact, the whole school too. It was already the talk amongst year groups that Harry Potter had been made the new Gryffindor seeker.

"You must be the youngest player in - "

" - a century" Harry finished Ron's sentence off, shovelling his pie down his throat. "McGonagall told me."

"Good job, Harry" Ember said with a smile, still shocked that he wasn't expelled. Not that she was complaining.

"Thanks, Em" Harry grinned, using the new nickname the boys had crafted for her. At first they suggested Emmie, but Ember had shut them down immediately...only Freya called her that.

"I'm supposed to start training next week" he explained, before his voice turned to a low whisper. "But don't tell anyone, Wood wants to keep it a secret."

"I think it's a little late for that" Ember chuckled as she noticed all the beady eyes on the three of them and the whispers that followed. Harry turned red and smacked his head, so much for keeping it a secret. Ron perked up however when he saw two other gingers, entering the great hall. They were his brothers, Fred and George.

"Well done" George yelled. "Wood told us, we're on the team too - Beaters!"

"Our job is to make sure you don't get bloodied up too bad" Fred exclaimed, high fiving his brother.

"Can't make any promises though. Rough game, Quidditch."

Ember hadn't had too many conversations with the twins, but from the sounds of it they were the biggest troublemakers around. In the best way of course. Harry looked pale, but Ron lightly nudged him.

"Don't listen to those two, no one's died in years" Ron tried to comfort him, but not very well. Ember sighed, shaking her head as she watched Fred and George hurry off further down the table, cackles echoing throughout the hall.

"Having your last mean, eh, Potter?" The sound of Draco Malfoy diminished any previous laughter that might have filled them as Ember turned around glumly.

"Go away, Malfoy!" She snapped.

"You better watch that mouth of yours Swan, or you might find yourself packing like Potter here" Malfoy grinned, both Crabbe and Goyle sniggering behind him. As if luck would have it that Malfoy it seemed, was the only one in the school to not hear about Harry's fate. Ember's smile grew as she turned to face him.

"Why no Malfoy, haven't you heard? Harry's on the Gryffindor Quidditch team" she smirked and watched as Draco's face turned scarlet red. Harry behind her grinned and Ron suppressed a laugh.

"I made seeker too. Suppose I have you to thank, if you hadn't flown off with Neville's remembrall, I would never have had the chance to prove myself" Harry added.

Malfoy looked as if he was about to kill someone and Ember did her best to suppress a giggle. Puffing with rage, Malfoy leant down on the table and got right up in Harry's face.

"If you think you're so great, I challenge you to a wizards duel Potter!" The blonde spat, and Harry did his best to hide the confusion that flooded his face. "What do ya say? Midnight tonight? Or are ya too scared?"
