Lan Wangji struggled to get out of his bed after being punished so badly. The wounds from the discipline whip were still fresh, but he knew he had to go. To stop them from hurting his beloved. He no longer cared if his love wanted him on his side or not. All he knew was he was going to protect Wei Ying with everything he was. What Lan Wangji didn't know was that his beloved has already cut ties with the mortal realm and ascended to heavens. No Lan was able to break the news to Lan Wangji especially after punishing him. Their shame ate them up, and thus the Hanguang-jun remained oblivious to the fact.

The major sects will have kept quiet about the Yiling patriarch's ascension. Some people even had the audacity to shame Wei Wuxian and claim he died. All the rumors fell on Lan Wangji's ears, but he paid no mind, after all, he had only one goal in mind. Once he was near Yiling, he realized people weren't shaming Wei Wuxian's name. Instead, they were singing his praises and praying to heavens. Some even said he was worthy of being a god. At first, Lan Wangji didn't understand what they meant, but soon he came to understand that he was kept in the dark by his sect. His Wei Ying, his beloved, was now a god. The man who was condemned for his way of cultivation and seen as a murderer and evil incarnate was actually blessed by heavens.

Lan Wangji knew there was no use of going any further. He won't find Wei Ying in burial mounds, and yet he stubbornly travelled ahead. With his broken body, he kept pushing on, further and further into the hell trap that was burial mounds.

Walking into the scene of massacre of innocents was not what he expected. How come Wei Ying wasn't there to save them? What happened here? How far did they push him? How cruel can the cultivation world truly be? For some reason, he felt like his title was just there to shame him. He couldn't save his beloved or the innocent Wens from the cruelty of the so-called prominent sects. He felt like he lost the most precious thing to him. Not only that, but he lost the chance to ever tell Wei Ying his true feelings.

Lan Wangji could barely walk. His wounds had opened up after putting so much strain on them. His clothes had already stained red, and he had to use his sword as a crutch. There was so much resentment surrounding the area he was going towards. But he couldn't pass through the thick fog of resentment, for whatever the reasons may be. As he turned around to leave, a strange phenomenon occurred. Resentment swirled around him, somehow it was comforting. Maybe this was because of his hightailed feelings for the Yiling patriarch, he thought solemnly. Even the resentment energy could feel soothing if it was connected to him in any way. Suddenly, two bunnies came out of the thick fog. Translucent black bunnies with red glowing eyes, they really did remind him of his newly ascended crush. One of the bunnies came forward to him and started to run around in circle around him. The other had something in his mouth that he had been nibbling on. Upon closer observation, he saw it was a broken piece of Stygian tiger amulet. Lan Wangji took the amulet back from the rabbit. Somehow, the rabbits had knowingly brought the piece to him for whatever reason. But Lan Wangji swore to keep it safe and hidden from every man in this world. He took one last look at the burial mounds and left. For some unknown reason, though, he kept feeling that this won't be his last visit here.
