Wake Up

"I hope she wakes up."I could hear Dre saying.

"Damn Nani...damn."I could hear my friend Lashae say. I opened my eyes and looked around. The nurses rushed towards me and smiled.

"Welcome back."My nurse smiled. She was a short white lady with curly brown hair.

"Why am I here?"I said looking around. I looked down at my stomach and I had the baby.

"You got into a car accident..Someone ran you and Kaleef off the road."Lashae said, touching my hand.

"Where's my baby?"I said looking around.

"She's asleep in the nursery . You've been out cold for two weeks. The baby had to be on a breathing machine for awhile."The nurse said

"And Kaleef?"I asked. Everyone in the room shook their head. I knew ...We lost him. Dre brought Sky in and she was beautiful. She was brown skin with curly black hair and big brown eyes. I cried as i held her and kissed her on her cheeks. Lashae hugged me and handed me a card from Kaleef's father. I opened the card and inside was royalty checks . Sky is going to be set for life.

"He drowned while you guys were underwater. The police were 15 minutes too late but you kept pushing."Lashae smiled.

"Thank you guys for being here." I smiled

"No doubt baby mama."Dre smiled kissing my forehead.

I was happy that Sky lived and that i was alive too . However i was mad as hell that Kaleef didn't make it and even more mad that this didn't feel like an accident to me. I spent two days at the hospital before we went home. Lashae and Ana stayed with me for a couple days to help out with Sky and Cynsere.

Slowly I started to get my life back together. Kaleef's funeral was held while I was in the hospital so I didn't get to say goodbye. I was sitting home watching tv when I heard a knock at the door. I opened it and it was Dre holding gifts and groceries.

"Awe thank you Dre you didn't have to."I smiled.

"You don't gotta thank me babymama you've been through alot."He said, kissing me on the cheek. I let him in and he put the groceries away for me. Despite our bullshit Dre was a stand up guy . When Tanisha was going to school Dre was paying her rent for her every month and bringing groceries. He definitely had the means to do so and I respected him. I poured him something to drink and we sat on the couch. Dre looked at me while licking his lips. Damn, I love it when he does that.

"I hope this ain't too soon to say but Nani i miss you...i ain't handle you right the first time around but i wanna do better."He said moving closer to me.

"Dre , i just lost my husband and had a baby. I am not ready for none of that right now."

"I'm not asking you to be ready right now. Just take some time and think about it. Damn you don't think i should be forgiven?"He asked.

"You were forgiven awhile ago... I just need some time."I said.

"Bet...let me get out of here. I gotta pick Nova up and take her to my moms. Its easter sunday tomorrow you know."He said.

"Thank you Dre."I said walking him to the door. He left and i locked the door behind me. Sky was sleeping in her rocking chair and i sat on the couch and turned the tv on. I wish Kaleef was here to see our babygirl. I wish he could at least for a day. The next day i took Cynsere and Sky to the park. It was beautiful outside and i needed some fresh air. I sat on the bench next to Sky as Cynsere played on the playground. A couple minutes later Ana walked up to me she was walking with her niece Navaya. She sat down next to me and i could tell something was wrong with her.

"Sis..you are quiet ...whats wrong?"

"I am pregnant."Ana said.

"Oh my god Ana ! Thats great! Who's the daddy?"I asked her.

"It was Stony."She said. Stony was a dude we went to high school with. He died a month ago in a gang related shooting. Stony was a red disciple and was always in some trouble.

"Damn sis. It's okay you have me and Lashae to help you."I said hugging her.

"I'm just scared."Ana said.

"I was too. When i found out i was pregnant with Cynsere i was real scared. But i promise it comes naturally you'll know what to do."I said.

"I guess."Ana said shrugging. After a couple hours we went home. When i got home i had three voicemails on my housephone. All from Dre.

I put Cynsere in the tub and washed dishes before making dinner. After dinner Cynsere watched TV in his room and i sat in the living room with Sky.

"You called me?" I said after dialing Dre's number.

"Yeah.. what you got planned tomorrow? Lets go out to eat."He said.

"Nothing planned. Cynsere got school so maybe me, sky m and you can go in the morning ."I said.

"Aight ..after you put him on the bus i'll pick you up."He said

"Okay."I said hanging up. I knew what Dre was trying to do but i just couldn't get over losing Kaleef. Kaleef was my first true love. What Dre and i had was toxic and one thing i can say about Kaleef is that he never betrayed me the way Dre did. I started to think about Shanae. The police still haven't found her. They think she's the one that ran me and Kaleef off the bridge they better hope i don't find her first.
