Tinny music sounds quietly from Toya's back pocket. I recognize it as the same ring tone he's kept for four years.
He takes the call, not saying anything for a full minute. I can't hear what the person on the line is saying. "Goodbye." He hangs up. "My father wants me home. I'm sorry, Akito. We won't be able to practice even though it's only around quarter to three. Damn it, the performance is so soon, too."
". . We'll figure it out somehow."
He hums in agreement.
"Akito. Don't forget to have lunch." Right. I didn't notice the emptiness in my stomach until now. "Thanks, man,"
When I get home, I eat random stuff that's still in the fridge before it rots away. bro can't go to the grocery store 💀 I go into my room. I have nothing to do since I can't practice without Toya. It makes me feel restless. We have a deadline. We should be working. Maybe I should call him? Nah, I don't want to disturb Toya too much.
