Chapter 7: The Adriatic

Looks like we made it
Look how far we've come, my baby
We mighta took the long way
We knew we'd get there someday...

I hum along as Shania Twain gently blasts the inside of the rental car that Ha Joon is currently driving.

We are currently in Dubrovnik, an old town in Croatia along the coast of the Adriatic Sea. While on our way to a small villa we booked, I cannot contain my excitement that I am slightly banging my head to whatever song is playing. I look like a child having her first trip to Disneyland to say the least. 

"Too happy today, yeobo?" Ha Joon grabs my hand and quickly kisses the back of it, not taking his eyes away from the road.I blush at his endearment. I don't call him that though, I can't imagine calling him that.

"You bet! Thank you for this Ha Joon."

It's really amazing how unpredictable things are. If someone mentioned a month ago that I will be with him on a trip overseas like this, I might have flicked their forehead to wake them up. But here I am, looking so eager to see the coastline and swim under the bright rays of the sun, with him driving us to our destination.

"Ah, don't mention it. Thank YOU for clearing your diary."

I look out the window and smile.When he offered to have this trip last week, I didn't think I would be able to clear my schedule so quickly. Massive thanks to Yumi, I was able to get the demo and script of my new project a couple of days after she visited me. I got really swamped with the task of thoroughly reviewing them. When I informed the drama team that I will do it, they were very happy and couldn't wait to start with me. As they are still in the early stages of production, I have been allowed to take three days off max and formally start the recording next week.

Ha Joon pulls up the driveway and before the engine completely shuts, I get out of the car excitedly. He gets out a few moments later and proceeds to unload our luggages from the trunk. I help him carry our things to the entrance of the two-storey villa. The house is quite big for two people. It is after all built for a family of at least four. I wonder how much he paid for this. I have pestered him nonstop on our way here but he wouldn't budge. He said that this was his late birthday surprise for me so I shouldn't worry about anything.

We both make our way to the second floor to the master bedroom and arrange our things. The room is more than big enough for two. There is an extra room downstairs which can accommodate two more. After we put away our things into the closet, I open the door to a balcony. I gasp. It provides a wide view of the Adriatic Sea, the northernmost part of the Mediterranean. It looks magnificent, I could stare at it for hours.The pictures I found on the internet do not give it justice.

I feel him approach and hug me from behind.

"What do you think?"

"Oh my god, this is so beautiful!" I hold his hands and squeeze them to emphasize my amazement.
