We arrive at Hogwarts.

Myrtle, Rubeus, and I climb out of our room on the train and go towards where everybody else is rushing to, the boats.

There are multiple little wooden boats that people are getting into so they can safely go across the large body of water between the land and Hogwarts.

We find a free boats and get in it, and Rubeus starts rowing us towards the castle of a school. I knew Hogwarts was big, but I didn't realize it was this big.

Once we finally get to the other side of the lake, me, Myrtle, and Rubeus get out the boat and follow a tall man with long, white hair and a short, white beard to the front of Hogwarts.

Once everyone gets settled behind us, the man starts talking. "My name is Armando Dippet and I am your headmaster, here at Hogwarts. Please, follow me." He opens the doors to the school and leads us in.

All of the first years, including me, myrtle, and Rubeus, are led to a dark hallway by a tall man with short, clean, dark hair and short, dark beard. Why does everyone have beards?

"Hello, first years, my name is Professor Albus Dumbledore. I am the Transfiguration teacher here, at Hogwarts. Now, all of the other students are seated in the Great Hall, where they are getting a speech, sort of like how you lot are getting. First, I will lead you all to the Great Hall and call you by first and last name. When I call your name, you will walk up the the chair and sit down, and I will place the Sorting Hat on your head. When the hat gives you a house, you will find the table with your house flag above it and sit down. The first house is Gryffindor, the house of courage and bravery. The second house is Hufflepuff, the house of justice and loyalty. The third house is Ravenclaw, the house of wit and learning. And finally, the last house, Slytherin. The house of ambition and resourcefulness. Now that you know this, it is time for you all to be placed into your houses. Come, come."

Professor Dumbledore ushers us into a room that I'm assuming is the Great Hall. In front of us when we walk in is three tables, all filled with different students. Some wearing red, some yellow, some blue, and some green. He leads us to an open space in front of a set of stairs. Sitting before us on the stairs is a chair, with a tall, pointy, gray hat on top, that I'm assuming is the Sorting Hat. Professor Dumbledore walks up next to the chair and picks up a scroll and the hat. He reads the first name.

"Melinda Aaron!"

A little girl walks up to the chair and sits down. Then, Professor Dumbledore places the Sorting Hat on top of her head.

In just a blink of an eye, the hat opens his eyes and booms out, "Well... Ms. Aaron, you are interesting. You are very intelligent, yes, but you are also very brave. Let's see which trait is stronger..." The hat goes silent for a moment before yelling, "Bravery! Gryffindor it is!"

I hear cheers from behind me and turn around, noticing the people at the table on the far right are standing up and applauding Melinda.

Melinda rises from the chair and struts over to the table, clearly proud.

After a few more people go up to the hat, I hear one familiar name.

"Rubeus Hagrid!"

I look over and smile at Rubeus, high fiving him. "You got this!"

He smiles back at me and walks up to the chair, sitting down. Professor Dumbledore places the Sorting Hat on his head.

"Oh, this one will be quite difficult..." The Sorting Hat falters. "Quite difficult, indeed. Courageous. Brave. Kind. Gentle. Gryffindor... Or Hufflepuff?" After a few moments of consideration, the Sorting Hat yells out, "Gryffindor!"

Behind me, the Gryffindor table cheers again. As Rubeus passes by me, I high five him once more before he takes his seat at the table.

A few people later, I hear my own name.

"y/n McGonagall!"

I look at Myrtle as if she could stop me from having to go up there n front of all these people. Instead, she gives me a reassuring smile and gently pushes me forwards. I timidly walk up the stairs and sit in the chair, feeling as the Sorting Hat gets places on my head.

"Oh wow!" The Sorting Hat booms. It is definitely much louder than I thought it was. How has Professor Dumbledore not gone deaf after having to stand next to it yelling throughout all these people? "You are a rare case..."

I feel my face contort into a mixture of surprise and confusion.

"Curious. Very curious. A mixture of all four houses. A perfect mixture. It'll be near impossible for me to decipher this one. Chivalrous. Brave. Patience. Loyalty. Wit. Wisdom. Determination. Cleverness. Not one trait is stronger than the other. You fit with all houses."

My eyebrows raise in slight fear. What could this mean? They can only put me in one house. They have to put me in one house. They can't put me in all of them, but they can't leave me without one.

I end up being seated there with the hat upon my head for about five minutes until it speaks up, "It must be left up to you, y/n McGonagall. You must choose your house. What will it be?"

I look around the room, seeing all the people at all the tables until on boy at the Slytherin table catches my eye. A boy that looks familiar. It takes me a moment, but I finally realize who the boy is. The rude boy at the train. I notice I've been looking only at him for too long, because he's been looking back at me too.

I close my eyes and whisper, "Slytherin."

"Slytherin it is!" The Sorting Hat yells.

The entire Slytherin table, except for the rude boy, stands up and cheers. I smile as the Sorting Hat is removed from my head, and I walk swiftly to the Slytherin table. People at the table pat my back as I move to sit in one of the open seats next to the rude boy. I wonder why no one is sitting near him.

A few more people later, I hear another familiar name.

"Myrtle Warren!"

I look up and watch as Myrtle walks up the chair and sits down. As soon as the Sorting Hat is placed on her head, it immediately yells out, "Ravenclaw!" Something I would've guessed easily. That one was no surprise.

"Go, Myrtle!" I cheer for my friend. When I cheer for her, the people around me look at me with a disgusted look, although I don't know why, nor do I care to know why. She's my only friend here other than Rubeus and I will cheer for her whenever I feel like it. She deserves it.

I look over and notice rude boy staring at me. Whenever I catch him, however, he doesn't turn away. He just holds eye contact with me, until we're interrupted my a large feast appearing all around us. We both turn away at the same time and focus on eating dinner before bed.
