Arabella was running towards the streets really fast early that morning not caring about the cold fall, not caring about how it burnt her face as she moved. All she knew was that she needed to move, fast. When she reached her destination, Esme’s home, she saw that the door was left open. Her heart thundered to the feeling of terror creeping into her. She hesitantly but carefully entered the house stepping carefully and slowly to the creaking wooden floor.

She withdrew her knife from her boot and carefully inspected every room, the kitchen, the toilet, the bedroom, the closet but nothing. She went at the back to check but there was no sign of anyone. She got back inside.

“No! No!” she exclaimed as realization hit her. “They took her!” She sat down on the bed feeling a stinging sensation in her eyes and she let it out. "I'm late." She cried silently... until she heard something in the closet.

She got up from the bed fast and cautiously to go inspect the closet. She opened the door of the closet and pushed the hanging clothes aside and that’s when she noticed a crack on the wooden wall of the closet.

“Queenie?” she called quietly, “Are you there?”

It was quiet.

“Queen, it’s me, Bella. Remember me?”

It was quiet again.

“I’m not here to hurt you, I promise!”

Arabella inserted her fingers at the corners of the wall and pulled and it opened slightly then she heard a little gasp. She pulled again and it opened to reveal a small place behind the wall where a little girl sat with her little knife outstretched in front of her.

“Queen?” she squatted in front of the closet.

“Go away! Mommy said I shouldn’t come out unless she tells me to. She said I shouldn’t trust anyone.”

“Where... Where is she?”

“She went hunting.”

“Of course.” Bella said. “I’m not here to hurt you. I’m here to protect you.”

“I want my mommy.”

Bella sighed but she was partly relieved that she was actually fine. “Queenie, you have to come with me... they invaded your home.”

“I know. Why do you think I hid in here?”

Bella smiled at how clever she was. She took her hand to the girl’s drawn hand with a knife and held it. Queen flinched but she didn't attack.

Bella took the little knife from her. “Come!” she grabbed her, carrying her out of the closet and she didn’t retaliate.

After Arabella fixed the door and closed it together with the windows, she sat on the bed with her, tying a cloth around her eyes as a blindfold.

"There! You brave little girl." Bella rubbed her head.

"I want my Mommy. I am hungry."

“Oh, sweetie!” Bella looked at her. “Did you hear the people that invaded your home? Do you know who they are?”

She nodded. “They are usually harassing Mommy and me and saying bad and nasty words.”

“If you heard them speak, would you recognize them?”

Queenie nodded again.

“We need to go.” Bella told her.

“I have to wait for mommy.”

“But it’s not safe here.”

“She might get worried if she doesn’t find me here.”

Bella looked at her in silence for a while, “What time does she always come back from hunting?”
