Ayatney didn't want to admit that she needed extra lessons and never went out of her way to ask their teachers to teach her more. But she was approached by the young metkayina girl a few days later, suggesting that she was able to teach a few extra lessons.
"Did Neteyam ask you?"
"Yes..."
Tsireya wasn't able to lie.
And while Ayatney was grateful towards the girl, she was a bit upset with Neteyam. Why do something for her when it wasn't asked? Especially after she had told him her story? It really wasn't a coincidence.
A month had passed since then and Ayatney had been progressing well. Better than she, herself, had expected. But she still wasn't the best.
She was able to hold her breath much longer and go a bit deeper rather than staying at the surface.
Though during her one on one lessons, Ayatney had noticed how Neteyam was always around. It started off as him just being in the distance, but then every other day he would get closer until he was practically part of her lessons as well.
The three were riding on their ilu, moving fast within the water as they maneuvered between various sizes of rocks and coral.
Tsireya was ahead of the pair leading them while Neteyam kept a consistent pace next to Ayatney, glancing over once in a while.
Her braids flowed behind her in the currents as her eyes drifted to the wild life that they had passed by.
Unconsciously, Neteyam had leaned over towards Ayatney's direction causing both of the ilu's to squawk in warning, trying to put distance between themselves.
Ayatney was pulled out of her trance, a bit shocked from the ilu's jerked movements. After they both had settled, Neteyam had recieved a glare from her.
Though it was meant to be an angry one, the girl couldn't help but smile again after. A familiar glint set into her eyes, one he knew very well.
And it would only bring mischief.
She had speed off, passing Tsireya who was watching them in case of an accident were to occur. Neteyam shook his head before deciding to chase after her.
Ayatney weaved through the coral, passing through schools of small fish as they made way for her to go. Neteyam made no attempt to grab the girl, but rather try to catch up with her.
He did eventually reached her speed, both ilu's in sync while going around each other in a spiral.
It was as if time slowed between them, eyes connecting through the water.
Once again, Ayatney felt the familiar tingle in her chest and it only seemed to grow bigger as she continued holding eye contact with Neteyam.
The distance between them were closing, soft smiles on both of their faces.
Though suddenly, their moment of intimacy was interrupted. Tuk and her ilu swimming in between the pair as Kiri followed.
Neteyam's face showed shock and if Ayatney was able to laugh underwater, she would have done so already.
Times like this were precious. To be able to act their age and be carefree without the worry of duties and the thought of someone hunting you down.
Ayatney was going to enjoy the time of peace and she hoped it would last forever.
The scene had changed, the group of youngsters, excluding Tuk, were all sitting on a rock that was islanded in the reef. Tsireya was teaching them how to better your breathing with the water, with your stomach rather than your chest.
