This character's pov is going to be very unexpected, so do not worry if you are thrown off at the start because you are supposed to be until you actually figure out whose pov this is in. (it's not that hard tbh)
Also, this character has been a fan favourite throughout the start of this story, so if you do not remember him I will be very disappointed in you :).

Note: this story switches from first, second, and third person at moments, so sorry if that bothers you but please bear with it.

My family have been farmers for generations, on both sides. They were very passionate about their farming, even going as far as to try and have as many kids as possible to keep the legacy going.
It was one of the only things they cared about, keeping their family traditions strong... and growing premium quality cabbages.
We never bothered with any of the military armies, or the threats outside the walls or listening to the latest neighbourhood news. Our family lived in our own world, separate from the houses surrounding ours and resolved around the green vegetables growing in the dirt.
Everything we had, our lives, goals, purpose, and hobbies, centred around our godly cabbages. We lived on a large block of land, which is honestly not saying much in the cramped walls of Shiganshina, but it was enough to grow rows upon rows of freshly green cabbages. A few months after the youngest child was born, we were able to move to the town just outside the wall after we were recognised for our skills and gained a whole three acres of land.
We were ecstatic as a green-loving family, and just weeks after we officially moved all of our crops, we were confident enough to start a business inside the wall. Life was really moving up for us.
Not once did the existence of titans cross our minds.
And on that fateful day, the oldest was sent out with their family cabbage cart to help the citizens set inside the walls set up their stall for the opening day. It was a far walk, the stall was situated right at the end of the district, meaning that the person had to walk through the entire district of Shiganshina to get to the stall. For that reason, it was offered that the father be the one to deliver the goods, but the oldest had convinced the family that he was responsible enough to make the trip by himself.
(a/n - for reference, the eldest is not a teenager, he is in his like his 40's but is treated as a teenager. this whole family is actually very aged and they act years younger than they actually are, but that's just their way of living)The journey had been a full day walk from sunrise to sunset, but not once did the oldest complain. In fact, he sprinted most of the way there out of exhilaration and excitement for the opening day. But, as he went to put his first cabbage on the shelf, the ground shook beneath him.
Confused, the merchant looked up at the man who was supposed to be helping him set up, but that said man wasn't looking at him. His eyes were glued to the sky, and as the merchant followed the man's terrified gaze, his eyes widened in fear.
There, above that 50-metre wall that was supposed to prevent any threats from entering, was a steaming titans head, staring down at the houses like a predator.
