Your breath hitched in your throat. You felt your veins pumping with blood. So much blood the pressure could tear them apart any second and you would bleed out internally. Your face was burning with an unknown mixture of emotions. Your vision blurred for a moment.

"Why am I supposed to carry it?""Because I trust you more than I trust myself with it."
You quickly analyzed your surroundings. Your gaze fixed on anything clear enough in your sight. For example on the back of someone's red messy-haired head. The person's haircut was uneven. They gave it to themselves spontaneously in a wave of creativity that overtook them few days ago. You knew because they called you afterwards, in the middle of the night, crying about how much they fucked up. You watched their body sway from side to side as they walked. Oh, how much you used to like that uneven cut.
Now it's been long enough to talk about it
"Come on, hurry up! I'm dying from the heat!!" Female voice erupted from the creature suddenly.
"I'm right behind you, it's you who's dragging their feet." You scoffed, letting your eyes drop to the small fabric case your companion just stuck into your hands.
I've started not to doubt it, just warp my head around it
It was scorching hot outside. The soles of two pairs of shoes were melting on the heated asphalt. The two of you were the only people crazy enough to take a trip in the middle of the hottest day of that summer. The streets were lifeless, apart from the crickets, which buzzed awkwardly in the tall dry grass. The sun had no mercy.
"You know what?" Little bit further into your never-ending walk to God-knows-where, the person in front of you turned to face you directly.
You raised an eyebrow at the sudden stop. Observing how nicely the rays of sunshine reflected on the girl's nose piercing. Red strands of hair wet from sweat stuck to her forehead as she gave you a cheeky smile. Her eyes almost disappeared behind her lower eyelids. You just wished the dark circles underlining them would too.
I remember when you told me it's an everyday decision
"I want you to keep the camera."
"...wait what? Why?? You worked your ass off in that stupid ice cream shop just to save up enough money, are you crazy?"
"Hah! You know me well enough to answer that yourself!" She let out a genuine chuckle. "Like I said, I trust you more with it than I would trust myself."
You watched her with face heated from the high temperature in disbelief, gulping down your own heartbeat that decided to pick up it's speed a notch.
"Your brain is obviously overheating, let's go find some shadow." You trapped her wrist in your palm, taking the lead this time.
Yet, she refused to move. Her piercing gaze never left your being. You felt it, you always have felt it on you. You were almost sure she saw past your clothing, past your skin, into your own depths. You felt like she knew things that not even you knew about yourself. You felt so vulnerable around her. So vulnerable it became natural to let your guard down whenever she was near. It became a comfort feeling. She became a safe place. She had the ability to get past the walls others couldn't.
