Downtown, there was this small coffee shop squeezed between two other buildings that menacingly towered over it. It had grown there a few years back from basically nothing. Yes, you were familiar with its exterior, but you've never really thought about coming in.
The smell of coffee and sweet pastry was even more appealing now that you knew you were about to taste some of it.
The entrance creaked open as your palms pushed against it. Your bag swung back and forth as you made your way inside. Light chatter danced over the tables, over the customers' heads. You looked around, analyzing your comforting surroundings and searching for a certain spikey-haired someone.
Nishinoya sat in a booth situated right beside the window. Ensuring the two of you would have the best view. His figure was so small however, it was very difficult to even find him. You sighed in relief, soft smile pushing into your cheeks.
I don't know just how it happened
I let down my guard"Hi there." You spoke softly. The libero turned his face from the glass panels. His eyes lit up a bit when he noticed it was you speaking, and not waitress coming over to take his order for the third time. He'd always have to explain he was waiting for someone. Yet, the expression he wore was so... lifeless and sad. You saw right past his façade, no matter how much he tried to hide it.
"Aww, come here." You tugged on his sleeve, taunting him to stand up so you could wrap your hands around him.
He immediately followed your lead, seemingly desperate for the comfort of your embrace. He buried his face into your shoulder in silence. There wasn't a need for him to say anything. It was now your turn to comfort him.
"I'm so sorry Noya. I know how much you trained.." It was difficult. You tried to think of the right thing to say, tried so hard to fit just the right words into a sentence. You knew how frustrating the effect of losing was. Especially after giving it your best. And still ending up failing...
He was silent, but his grip tightened.
Swore I'd never fall in love again
But I fell hard"It's okay, there will be other matches. You guys are still amazing... You know, sometimes you win... other times you learn."
He finally lifted his head up, but
couldn't bring himself to look at you.
"...Thank you, Y/n. I'm sorry for acting like a baby that can't take defeat. It doesn't even matter..." Only then he locked his eyes with yours. His lips curled into a smile... but it wasn't a genuine one. You could tell. You could always tell.Guess I should have seen it coming
Caught me by surprise"Noya, shut up. Of course it matters. And don't do this."
"Do what?"
"Don't fake smiles in front of me." You placed your hand on his shoulder to seat him back down to his place. He looked up at you, confused.
