How else were they supposed to spend the last day of her being in the same timezone? Sitting on the same couch? Breathing the same air and just being there. A bit too much thinking about it, really. But anyway.

How were they supposed to spend the last day before she goes home?

Karl's idea was a movie marathon in chronological order from their childhood. What that meant was starting from Barney, to the Backyardigans, to High School Musical and to the most recent movie they both watched virtually, La La Land. They were currently watching the third movie in the HSM series; Karl's been humming quietly while she watches. He's sat on the floor, back up against the couch--yes against it because she decided that his carpet was far too comfy and sometimes love just makes everything about sitting on the floor much more lovely than what it really feels like but still-- Sidetracked.

Gamerboy focus. Focus.

She has her head in his lap, eyes focused on the television screen. Cliche as it was, he was focusing on her while he combed through her hair. He tries to look up to really pay attention to Gabriella's musical number about going her own way but..well...he's in the same boat. He looks down at his muse, silently humming along the song even as he sees her head start to droop. He lets his thoughts sidetrack willingly.

'I wish..I'd fall asleep with you...even when you're home..12 hours away..'

Her smile from 3 days ago comes to mind. 'I know i'm more than lucky to just have you..here and now..'

Her laugh echoes in his memory. 'When you leave...i'll be here half empty.. because you'll be somewhere far from me'

He allows his gaze to trace the outline of her face; from the top of her forehead, down the bridge of her nose, to his cupid's bow and her lips, then back at her lovely (albeit closed) eyes.

His heart swells at how much he'd miss this in the months...years to follow.

And he knows that it wouldn't be literal years but it would feel like it. He knows that she's still his no matter how far off the distance will be, how much time passes or whatever moment or milestone happens. But a single moment of her presence made him wishful to always be in it.

Karl lifts an arm over his eyes and leans back on the couch. What he'd give--

If she stays, they can have dinner every Tuesday night. If she stays the week, he'd listen to all the Spanish music she'd play. If she stayed for a month more, he'd marathon every single movie ever made with her. If she stays..If she stays, his happiness does too.

Karl feels a poke to his cheek, jolting him back to reality. He looks down, meets her gaze, and smiles. He wills his heart not to break in the moment she takes his hand and kisses the back of it.

"The movie's done, you know?" She smiles, which he returns.

"I really didn't notice."

Karl stops, pushes his sadness to tomorrow, and smiles back.

"Did you sleep enough, though?"

"Mhmm, all the sleep I needed."
