Chapter 4

Beep. Beep. Beep. Lightning attempted to hit the snooze button, but she accidentally smashed her alarm clock.

~Great~ she thought, ~What a wonderful way to start the day.

"Lightning, I'm going to the store today," her mom said, "Need anything?"

"Yeah. I need a new alarm clock."

"Did you smash it again?"

"Maybe."

"Oh alright, " her mom said," You'd better come and get some breakfast before school."

Lightning got dressed and went downstairs. She got herself a mug of blood and put it in the microwave. ~Blood tastes much better warm,~ she thought.

~What does blood taste like?~ Phoenix asked.

~Wonderful! Where are you?~

~Outside of your house. Can I come in?~

~Sure. Hold on.~

She got the mug out of the microwave and as she went out to open the door her fangs elongated and she dug in.

"That smells disgusting."

"It does not!" She answered.

T me it does," he said n disgust, "Ready for the first day of high school?

"I guess. Oh, I meant to tell you , there's this guy at school called Draco McMillan. He is always mean and rude. Just try to ignore him and tune him out."

"OK."

"This is McKinney high school," Lightning said.

As Lightning and Phoenix walked in Draco noticed them and said, "Hey everyone, it's goth and gother!"he walked up to Phoenix,"where'd you come from, Freaktown?"

At that remark everyone burst into laughter.

~Come on.~ Lightning thought. They looked at each other, then as she stated to lead him to the gym, Draco stepped in front of them,"What, no talking? Cat got your tongue?"

~I see what you mean.~ Phoenix thought.

"There's no need to talk," Lightning said.

"Look," Phoenix said, "I don't know who this guy thinks he is, but really let's just go."

"Oh," Draco said,"Mr. Freak thinks he's so brave talking about me like that."

"I was just stating a fact," Phoenix said. He looked directly into Draco's eyes. Just from his gaze, Draco became unnerved. "Freak," he muttered, then he walked away.

~Glad that's over.~Phoenix said.

~Come on.~

They went to the gym, got their combos, their schedules, and a map of the school.

~Only 2 of our classes are the same.~ Lightning said.

~Watch this.~ Phoenix said. The letters on their papers and the teacher's papers shifted.

~now we're in all the same classes!~
