• Yes Idiot •

"Namaste." He touched the feet of her parents and bowed down in respect.

"Khush raho." they blessed and everybody settled down.
(“Stay happy”)

"So, how's your job going?" Her mom questioned.

"Fine Aunty." He replied with a smile.
(“Fine, aunt.”)

With shivering legs, he was anxious and nervous.

Why?

He was going to see his would-be life partner in a couple of mins. He had gelled his hair, combed them properly, and ironed his shirt just for today.

The conversation between both the families continued until a while when suddenly the main gate opened and a lady in an army uniform entered the gate with a huge smile.

"Baba." She says and hugs her dad tightly embracing him like nobody else. Then hug her mother next.

She turns and notices a family, a man, a lady and a young guy standing quietly and admiring them. She looks at her mother, and Mrs. Singh smiles.

"This is the Mudgalkar family." Mallika folds her hands in a namaste and they nod.

"And this is Sumedh, your prospective groom." Her dad says in a low voice not sure of her reaction.

She walks two steps in front of Sumedh Mudgalkar and extends her hands for a handshake which he gladly takes.

"Flight Lieutenant Mallika Singh." She says with pride.

"I know." It was almost inaudible but Mallika nodded anyways.

Sumedh's mom nudged him and he broke out of his trance and mumbled his intro.
He was embarrassed and zoned out staring at the lady in front of him.

She had a grace, a glow on her face.

Beauty with brains indeed, but that's not it.

There was more to it.

"You guys continue, I'll be back in a while." She smiled and went upstairs while everyone settled down.

The past 20 mins were torture to Sumedh Mudgalkar. He was dying for see her face.
Oh god, what a desperate man.
His mind chuckled.

Finally after a long wait, his eyes got blessed.

And not only that, they widened in surprise.

The lady who was in her uniform half an hour ago was in traditional wear.

What a sight. His mind said.

This girl could slay both and there was no doubt.

Her mother instantly reached upto her and made her sit next to her.

"So, how about the children talk alone?" Mr. Mudgalkar suggested after a while and everyone agreed.

"We'll be in the garden." Mr Singh said and all four of them left.

Mallika looked at something who wasn't meeting her eyes.
Why? She didn't knew.

"Hi." She initiated.

"You look good." Was the first thing that came out of his mouth.

"Trying to impress, huh." Mallika said and Sumedh stiffened.

And then she smiled.

"Don't mind, I was kidding."

"What do you do?" Sumedh frowned.
Doesn't she knows, didn't her family tell her?

"uhm.. I don't know sorry. I was on a mission, usual deployment I came back home after 4 months." He relaxed and nodded.

"I'm a financial advisor who works for different firms." She nodded.

"So, you're okay with marrying me?" She questioned and this time he met her eyes properly and directly.

"Look it's not that I don't like you, nor something about you. It's about me. It is bound to happen, like marriage but there are consequences. I cannot be a homemaker, I cannot be with you in all your tough times physically with you, I cannot make public appearances as your wife every time the situation demands, I cannot give time to your relatives and neither-

"It's okay." He cut her off in disbelief.

"You're okay with all of this?" She asks bewildered.

He nods.

"What if I get shot one day?" She asks.

"I will provide with the best teams of doctor for your cure." She shakes her head in denial.

"This is not a joke, this is life. I'm serious."

"Who says I'm kidding, I'm also serious." He shrugs.

"You're ready to put your entire fucking life, take this risk knowing everything for me, why?" She questions.

"as you said it's bound to happen, so I don't want any other man to take this precious chance and I'll be the one watching." He says like it's so casual.

Impressed would be an understatement.
This man was something extraordinary to what Mallika Singh had imagined.

"So, is it a yes from your side?" He asks

"You will not regret it right?" She asks

"Nope, yes or no?"

"Are you sure?"

"yes or not?"

"Sumedh!"

"yes or no?"

"YES IDIOT." She says finally.

"Did I hear a yes just now?" Mrs. Mudgalkar walked in.

Mallika hunged her head low and nodded.

"Oh my god." She hugs her to be daughter in law and blesses her.

"Let me bring the sweets." Mr. Singh said with a smile.

Sweets distributed, hugs exchanged, smiles glowing up every face, today felt like a complete day.

''Can we have the engagement this week?" Mallika blurted and silence prevailed.

"Mal-

"Ma, I don't know for how many days I'm here. I can be called back to borders, or for some mission. Sumedh, Uncle, Aunty." She looks at them.

"I'm very happy you guys chose it, but it comes with risks, and other consequences so please." She requested.

"I'm fine with it." Sumedh said.

"But-

"If the bride and groom are ready, it's okay." Mr. Mudgalkar said.

"Fine, this Friday done! "

The couple exchanged a glance and smiled at each other.

Good days are coming.

Both were the last ones to walk out of the house.
"Meet on Friday then. " Mallika says.

Sumedh holds her hands softly.
"I just wanted to say I really like you Flight Lieutenant Mallika Singh." And he presses a short yet sweet kiss on her nose and vanishes like anywhere.

I will go crazy. She thought.
You already are, her mind reminded.

She chuckled to her thoughts and smiled thinking about Sumedh Mudgalkar.
