Maliks POV

Tears cascaded down my cheek as I felt Violet become weak, her breathing hitched, her rosy cheeks now colourless and pale. She didn't look like she was in pain, she looked at peace as a  weak smile tugged at her lips. The silence in the basement was deafening, my sobs echoed as I felt my heart pound.Memories of my life, of our life played through my mind as i looked down to her beautiful face.

"Do you ever think about the future? I mean like do you wonder what your life will be like?" A young Violet innocently asked, she was only 12 yet she always asked the most philosophical questions.I smiled softly as i walked over to the oak tree.

"I wonder what i'll do, i hope i don't go into my family's business.I just hope i end up happy." I reply as I look up at Violet, her soft brown hair had highlights from us spending so much time in the sun.A small frown appeared across her face as she averted her eyes, as she walked up the hiking trail.

"Do you worry that you'll - you won't have a future?" she asks as she blinks hard.

"You'll have a future Lettie, a great future. You'll be so happy" I replied, her eyes beamed as a smile tugged at her lip.

"How will you know that I'll be happy?"

"Because i'll be there and i'll be the reason you smile"

"Please" I whispered as my tears fell onto her face. "Please" I begged again as I brushed her light brown hair behind her ear.

A violent stampede of footsteps shook the room as I heard the basement door open followed by rapid heavy footsteps down the creaky wooden stairs.I pointed my weapon at the door in anticipation of who was behind it but I lowered my weapon as Tobias followed by men in guards stepped in.

"Oh god" Tobias exclaimed as his eyes fell on Violet.

"ottenere ambulanza e medici ora" (get ambulances and doctors now) He yelled as he ran over to Violet and I.Tobias normal stoic face was long gone but now was plagued with a look of worry and sorrow. He reached for Violet's hand as he rubbed small circles on the back of her hand.

"You'll be okay Bambina" he whispered as his voice began to break.

"We don't know if she is going to make it..." The young doctor braced himself for our reaction as Violet's brothers glared at him, Angelo was turned looking longingly outside the hospital window into the darkness of the night.

He turns around rapidly and grabs the doctor by the collar.

"There's no if" He hisses "she is going to make it" he sneers as he roughly lets go of the doctor. The doctor nods rapidly and scurries out of the room.

Angelo sighs heavily as he tightly closes his eyes, cursing in Italian.

"Why didn't you wait for us or wait for backup?" He asks as his deadly gaze turns to me, I don't flinch under his gaze instead I narrow my eyes.

"Another minute and Jay could have killed her" I mutter as I clench my jaw.

"And what about now? Your impatience almost caused her death" he grumbles as his hand goes to his jacket pocket where his gun is concealed.

"He saved her" Nico pipes up from his silence as he leans forwards in the hospital bed. "Dad if he waited Violet could have been killed, he saved her" Nico repeats as his eyes follow his father, Angelos expression softens as he looks to his son.

Angelo sighs again as he pinches the bridge of his nose.

"Thank you" he mumbles, his voice filled with sincerity "Thank you for saving my daughter" he whispers as he places his hand on my shoulder.

The tension remains as we all stay at the hospital, anxiously waiting for news about Violet's condition. My leg nervously bounced up and down as I listened to the irritating ticking from the clock. Seconds turned to minutes as they turned to hours and still no news, Angelo only grew more irritable as he marched up and down the hospital hallway.

Eventually the doctor nervously came back out to explain her condition.

"She lost 30% of her blood, luckily the bullet did not rupture any major organs but her body is under a lot of stress. Her heart can't pump at the rate it needs to in order to survive.. While she's awake" He murmurs as the doctor nervously averts his gaze.

"She's in a medically induced coma so her body can heal" He finishes his sentence as steps back anticipating a punch.

"A coma!" Lucien exclaims as he jumps to his feet.

"How long?" Angelo asks, his voice sounding intimidating as he focuses his eyes.

"We aren't sure.It could be a few days or a few weeks" The doctor whispers as his eyes fall to the ground. "I'm so sorry" He announces as he scrambles out of the room.

The room is silent as we all sit in disbelief, my heart aches as I remember Violet laying in my lap as the coloured drained from her face. I shot up from my chair as I stormed out of the hospital room. I couldn't be here.My breathing became rapid and shallow as I drove to my office trying to not let my shaky hands cause me to crash my car.

"Fuck" i yelled as i threw a glass against my office wall,  it shattered into millions of pieces as i continued my rampage.Glass, books and chairs flying around the room as i felt the anger begin to lessen inside of me.

I took in a deep breath as I leaned against my desk, my hand reaching for the picture in my wallet. I sighed as I looked at Violet.

"I'm so sorry" I murmured as tears blurred my vision.

Angelo's POV

It's been three weeks since we found Violet. Nico can finally walk again although the stitches from his wound still need to be removed. The boys haven't left Violet's bedside, Leo spends most nights asleep in the chair next to her while Lucien sleeps on the floor.

Malik had been to visit almost everyday although everyday he appeared more and more unpolished.Dark circles crowded his face along with bruises across his nose and he appeared to be skinnier everyday. He hadn't been the same since he stormed out of the hospital. From what I had heard he became heartless, he went after every single person that ever worked with Jay and tortured them ruthlessly. He was broken.

He reminded me of myself,I knew that feeling all too well.

I spent most nights either in the waiting room at the hospital or at home feeling guilty that I wasn't at the hospital by my baby girl's bedside. I hadn't slept in so long that I began to wonder if this was all a hallucination, I hoped it was all a hallucination and that Violet was awake and happy living like a typical teenager.

I laid in my empty bed tossing and turning unable to rest knowing my daughter may never wake up, it was hell not knowing and it was even worse waiting for something to change even though nothing ever did. I closed my eyes hoping sleep would come to me only for the ringing of my phone to blare into my ear.

"She's awake"
