Dimitri's POV
Two days prior.......
I stared at all the bank statements in my hand of my brothers spending habits. It was clear that my younger twin brothers had been very busy, too busy, for my liking.
As their older sibling, I couldn't help but feel a sense of responsibility for their actions. It was clear they were definitely up to something with all the spending being done by these two.
The more I dug deeper, the more curious I became about what exactly they were doing. Various factors of what they could possibly be doing ran through my mind, but there was one small thing that stood out amongst all.
I couldn't deny that my younger brothers were masterminds who knew what they were doing and not just some immature boys.
However, as much as I admired their prowess and cunningness, I knew that I had to remain vigilant.
I fixed my gaze ahead of me now, placing the statements aside, trying to maintain a calm composure as I waited patiently for the man to divulge the information I needed.
With my hands folded together, I exuded an air of collectedness and composure, a stark contrast to the tension that crackled in the air.
The man seated before me paused, as if weighing his words carefully before finally speaking. "Your younger brothers paid me a hefty sum of ten thousand dollars not to say a word," he revealed, his voice quavering with fear.
I knew that my reputation preceded me, but I wanted to reassure him nonetheless. "Rest assured, you won't be in any sort of trouble," I assured him in a firm yet gentle tone.
The man took a deep breath before continuing, his words tumbling out in a rush. "They came to me with a beautiful blonde girl, requesting a new identity and passport to cross over into Italy," he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper confirming my suspension.
I chuckled hearing the news unfortunately frightening the man who sat before me.
I leaned forward slightly, my interest piqued by the man's revelation. "And what was her new identity?" I questioned, my tone even and measured.
The man hesitated for a moment, his eyes darting nervously around the room before he finally answered. "Her new name is Giuliani, Rena Giuliani," he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper.
As I processed the information, my heart began to race with excitement and intrigue. Rena Giuliani – the name stirred up more than just familiarity within me. She was the daughter of a prominent royal family and a former flame of mine.
Memories flooded back, taking me back to a time when Rena and I had shared a passionate romance that had been doomed from the start. Our love had been forbidden, as I was a mafia, and Rena was a princess, destined to marry a prince from a powerful neighboring kingdom.
The prospect of reconnecting with Rena and reigniting the flames of our former passion was both thrilling and dangerous, as such a love was still considered a scandalous taboo.
"Thank you for your cooperation," I said, my voice calm. "You may leave now."
The man scrambled to his feet, eager to be out of my presence. As he hurried out of the room, I allowed myself a small smile of satisfaction. Another piece of the puzzle had fallen into place. Now, it was up to me to use this information to my advantage.
"I used the street cameras to track the location of your twins' car," Armando spoke in a hushed tone. "It seems they've been busy going in and out of the Remington apartment with the blonde bombshell."
As I gazed upon the monitor, my brothers stood alongside a woman whom I recognized all too intimately - a petite figure whose curves possessed the power to incapacitate even the most resolute of men. Destiny had a peculiar sense of humor, ushering her back into my life just as I believed I had severed all ties with her for good.
However, Armando had further revelations to impart. "I've acquired valuable intel from the phone store. It appears that the twins recently purchased a new phone, which they subsequently gave her. She's been clandestinely communicating with an individual who purports to be her physician, a certain Domenico. I've obtained a record of their entire correspondence."
As a mafia man, I didn't take kindly to competition, especially when it came to matters of the heart. Rena belonged to me, and no one else.
I had to act fast and put an end to this threat before it got out of hand and she had a chance to have feelings for this man. My mind was already working on a plan of action - one that would make sure Rena knew who she truly belonged to.
"Keep this information to yourself. No one should know about it," I warned Armando, my voice low and commanding. My mind was already racing, picturing all the ways I could keep my blonde beauty safe from harm.
I couldn't bear the thought of her being with someone else. It was a possessiveness that burned inside of me, a desire that I couldn't shake no matter how hard I tried. So, I got into my car and drove to the family restaurant where I knew Rena would be having dinner with Domenico.
I watched from the shadows, the darkness hiding my presence as I saw them laughing and chatting over dinner. It was almost too much to bear, the sight of her with someone else. I knew I had to stay calm, that I couldn't just barge in and make a scene.
Despite my best efforts to suppress it, a blazing inferno of fury smoldered within me, threatening to incinerate everything in its path. As Rena took a cab back to her apartment, my vehicle tailed hers through the dimly-lit streets. Once she vanished into her building, I parked my car and after waiting for a while outside, I made my way into her apartment building.
I knocked on a specific door, and the proprietor's eyes widened in astonishment at the sight of me. Nevertheless, I remained unperturbed. My focus was single-minded, my objective clear – I had a duty to fulfill, and a woman to see.
"Don't tell the twins," he pleaded with a tremor in his voice. However, I couldn't afford to be swayed by his apprehension. Without further ado, he headed inside his room for the keys I needed, I retrieved the keys from his grasp and proceeded towards Rena's quarters, mindful that she would be soundly asleep by now.
Upon entering her abode, the redolence of her perfume enveloped my senses, engendering a sudden surge of ardor within me. Yet, I reminded myself of my raison d'être – to ensure her safety and not indulge my possessive inclinations.
With an intent to familiarize myself with the environment, I conducted a sweeping survey of the room before gradually proceeding towards her sleeping chambers. My heart thudded against my ribcage, riddled with uncertainty as I gripped the doorknob, as I eagerly anticipated seeing Rena on the other side.
But as I opened the door, I was relieved to see Rena safe and sound, and my possessive instincts kicked in. I couldn't help but feel jealous of Domenico, knowing that he had been on a date with the woman who belonged to me.
As I stepped into Rena's room, my eyes immediately fell upon her serene form, curled up in peaceful slumber. I couldn't help but feel a surge of emotion as I gazed upon her delicate features - the gentle curve of her cheek, the flutter of her lashes, and the rise and fall of her chest with each steady breath.
My hand trembled as I reached out to stroke her soft skin, feeling a profound sense of adoration for this precious being who lay before me.
I sat down next to her, watching her as she slept. And for the first time in a long time, I felt a sense of peace. As if, even in the midst of all the chaos and danger, there was still a light shining in the darkness. A light that I would do anything to protect.
In this quiet moment, I was reminded of the depth of my connection to Rena, and how grateful I was to have her in my life once again.
**************
I guess Rena wasn't imagining things after all🫣
