As I carried him up to the house, a thought hit me, "What am I doing? I barely even know this guy and now I have to spend the rest of my life with him?" But, as I looked down at him, I lost those thoughts as a wave of concern swept over me. I have to get him somewhere safe. Somewhere nothing can hurt him.

I awkwardly knocked on the door as I tried to wake him up. When it opened up, the butler came out.

"Hello, can I help y - Master Max?! What happened? Tell me!" he yelled as he grabbed me by the collar with amazing speed and strength for an old man.

I looked him in the eyes as I calmly explained what happened as briefly as possible.

He stuttered a quick apology and tried to take Max from me.

"No!" I half-yelled much to my surprise. The butler's eyes widened briefly as I continued, "I have to make sure that he is okay."

I looked at him pleadingly and he stared back for a moment.

A weird expression passed over his face. He nodded and let me in the house, which I didn't think he would. I was confused, but he led me down a hallway and up a flight of stairs. The whole time, I was running over the past few hours in my head as the butler led me through the twisting, winding corridors of the Manor.

When he stopped in front of a room, he helped me lay him down on his bed but as I did, he grabbed my shoulder and pulled me out into the hall.

"I know I can't stop you and I know what you are, but you must be careful with him." His grip intensified. "Please! He is more important than you could even begin to imagine. I will not let anyone know you are here and I will inform the security to allow you access but you must not let anything happen to him!"

I looked at him, and there was desperation and fear in his eyes. I was confused by his pleading and nodded. "I know you have bonded to him Child of Hati, please don't wake the sleeping beast.

The butler turned and began to leave but then he paused at the doorway.

"I made a promise to his mother but I fear I may not live long enough to carry it out. Tend to him. We shall speak more in the morning," he said, walked out the door and closed it behind him.

As the room grew dark, I sat there, for a moment, confused by what had just happened but I trusted the old man. As I sniffed the air, I caught the scent of old wood. As the old man walked further and further down the hall it faded and all I could place was that he had some deep connection to something ancient. My thoughts scattered as Max began to stir.

I walked over to him and brushed the hair out of his face. As I readjusted him, I noticed that he was very tense. I watched him, memorizing the contours of his face, the height of his jaw, the smoothness of his pale skin, the way he looked so innocent and frail when he slept. Soon after, I began to notice the elegant structure of the room and random knickknacks that were arranged under the band posters.

I sat down next to him on the large bed in the center of the room. His body withered as if someone had stabbed him and my first instinct was to wrap my arms around him.

As he started to relax, I sat up and hovered over him and, for a moment, his eyes opened. The eyes focused on me - something that filled my wolf with an ecstatic feeling.

"She is safe...I found her..." he whispered and went limp with the last ounce of energy gone.

I took this chance and lay down beside him, finally able to relax. One last thought plagued my mind as I fell asleep, ''Of all the people in the world, why do I love you?''
