~Max~

As we walked to his car I was confused about what happened with Katie but as we got to his car he opened the door for me and I couldn't help but blush. As I got in I tried to hide it, but to no prevail as he winked and went to the other side and got in. As we drove I watched the forest wiz by in beautiful shades of green. It was all beautiful but it was also a way to not say or do something super embarrassing.

"Sooo...,"so much for not talking. "are you sure you wan't to go to school today?" I looked at him for a minute. Why is he so concerned? I mean it is sweet but why?

"It's not like I have anything else to do, and besides it is Friday." I looked at him and smiled but he still looked worried. As we pulled up to the school I got out of the car and we both paused. "Well, uhh, this is awkward, soo, umm bye?" I could feel the color grow in my face, as I tried to think of something to say but just then the bell rang. "Oh crap, I'm going to be late, see you later." I waved as I ran up the steps into the school.

I didn't have any time to go over what happened to me through out my day as my classes flew by. As the bell signaling lunch came up I sighed in relief at the brief break. I walked into the large room and took my usual spot, in the back by the wall. At first I thought that people just move around and some tables are left empty but not this one, it stays vacant so I thought why not? It has become my lunch sanctuary, safely nestled away from the hustle and bustle of the "in" crowd. I sat there and unpacked my lunch that I threw together yesterday and started eating. Then out of no where a hand came out of nowhere and snatched up a dumpling as a body came crashing down besides me.

"Wow, that's delicious, did you make that?" I looked wide eyed and in shock at Blain as he started to eat his lunch.

"Blain, what are you doing here?!" I asked confused and a little than more panicky as people started staring.

"I'm eating lunch." he said matter of factly, like he didn't notice the stares and hushed whispers that had started circulating like a wild fire.

"No I mean why are you setting here? Don't you want to set with your friends?" He barely looked up with his answer.

"I am setting with a friend, your here aren't you?" I looked at him, taken aback, are we friends? I mean I guess it is possible right? without anything else to say he took this chance to speak. "Now your turn to answer one of my questions, what is that deliciousness you have there and did you make it yourself?" I laughed at the question mostly in disbelief but it confused him all the same. "What?" I shook my head.

"Nothing, sorry, and yea I did. It's nothing special just something I made in a hurry." He looked at me for a minute.

"Well it is official, I suck at cooking. If this is something that you just made in a hurry than I am a terrible cook." I laughed at him as he threw his arms into the air with a huff, pretending to be insulted I put my hand on his arm.

"Your cooking is fine." I tried but he was two steps ahead of me.

"How would you know? You've never tried it!" He accused without pause.

"Well, I guess I will have to try it then?" I asked more to myself than anything. He looked at me with a smug grin that told me he was up to no good.

"Well then," he said as he got up"It's a date." I tried to say something but he had already left to put his food up. So I wandered out of the lunch room, not knowing how to handle what happened. I spent the rest of the day like that. As I walked into my tutoring room I had so many things prepared to say but as I walked into the room I froze and all those thoughts decided to run for the hills. I tried to look away but something would not let me. Blain was setting there in the room with his shirt off routing around in his bag for something. A shiver went down my spine as my palms and chest started to tingle. I watched as the muscles shifted wile he rooted in his bag. He sat up straight and I got a quick glance at his flat wash board stomach as he put a shirt on and smiled sheepishly.

"Hehe, sorry I meant to change before you got here. I was running late from gym so I thought I would change before you got here."I took a quick breath to steady myself and to settle the confusing surge of emotions.

"Yea no problem. So how was your test today?" I sat down and started to go over the notes that he took. This was going to be a difficult day already but now it is sooo much worse than I thought it would be. After the bell rang I started to collect my stuff he stayed in the room. "You can leave if you want, you have been more than enough help today." he shook his head and picked up one of my bags.

"I'm not going to let you walk home Max, not after yesterday. " His usually happy disposition was replaced with a seriousness I had never seen.

"I'm not going be able to convince you otherwise am I?" he smiled again and shook his head. "Fine, you win." His smile broadened as he hefted his bag over his shoulder and he lugged mine with him as well. "I can carry one, I'm not crippled!" he laughed and just kept smiling and for some reason that smile made me feel safe and warm, like when mother was alive, but still different. I don't quite understand the depths and boundaries of this relationship but I love whatever it is, because things are complicated.
