Homesick

I was back at the office today after I left early yesterday, so I was hoping that things had settled down a bit so I would be able to get on with my work. When I entered the reception, Alexandra was very happy to see me and had a big smile on her face as I approached her desk. "Hey y/n, how are you feeling today?" she asked. "Much better thanks, ready to work my way through a load of documents today!" I laughed. "That's good. Oh and Theo told me to ask if you would be able to see him this morning please. I think it was to just update you on things that happened yesterday and to check how you're doing." she told me. I gulped and tried to fake a smile so that she wouldn't suspect something was wrong. However I promised myself that I wouldn't make a big deal out of this, therefore I had to act as if nothing had happened and move on with my day as normal. I was sure that Theo had received the message I gave him yesterday about backing off though so perhaps he might leave me alone now. "Ok, c'est pas de probleme." I replied before making my way over to the lift. I checked my phone for any messages and saw that I had received one from Grace asking if we could call at some point. I quickly replied saying that I would try to call her after I had finished work as that was a more reasonable time for her because she will have also finished work. As the lift doors opened, I put my phone into my bag and began to walk down the hall to drop my things off in my room before heading to Theo's office.

Once I had arrived, I knocked on his door and waited for him to call me in. I only had to wait a few seconds before a voice called for me to enter, so I slowly opened the door to find Theo sat at his desk with his feet on top of it whilst looking at his phone. "Ah y/n, nice to see you again." he stated calmly. "Glad to see you have recovered from your illness." he smirked. My stomach churned and the same uneasy feeling I had experienced last time with him returned. Still, I pushed that feeling and tried to ignore his flirting as best as I could. "I'm doing better thanks. Still not 100% though." I told him with a smile. "Too bad you couldn't do lunch yesterday. Maybe another time?" he asked. "Hhmm no thanks." I replied bluntly. "No need to be hostile sweetheart, I was only trying to be nice." he said smugly. "What did you need me for? Alex said you wanted to update me on some things that happened whilst I was gone." I queried, trying to divert the conversation to a different topic since I was getting more uncomfortable by the minute. "Oh um I just needed to check that everyone was on track with their deadlines which I assume you are." Theo replied. "Ah ok, yes I'm on track." I stated assuredly to which he simply nodded before looking back at his phone. "Ok that's all. You can go now y/n." he dismissed me with a wave of his hand whislt still looking at his phone. I rolled my eyes before heading back to my office to make a start on the several accounting statements that were currently sat on my desk.

After around 2 hours of working through my slowly diminishing pile of papers, I decided to take a quick break to stretch my legs and get myself a drink from the staff room. I closed my laptop and picked up my green mug from the side of my desk before getting up and making my way out of my room. I bumped into Marcus on my way there and he seemed to be in good spirits about something that had happened to him this morning. "Salut y/n, ca va?" he asked. "Je suis bon meric! Tu as l'air hereux." I replied. "Haha yeah um David my partner, well now fiance, proposed to me last night so I'm really excited!" he told me with a huge grin on his face. "Oh my god I'm so happy for you! I didn't even know you were with anyone." I said. "Yeah, we've been together for 4 years now and I can't wait for many more." Marcus informed me. I was honestly so happy for him and his good news kinda gave me hope that perhaps something great was waiting for me in the future. "Aawww that is just so sweet! I wish you all the best." I told him genuinely. "You know what, we're planning to have the wedding in 4 months. You should definitely join us! Oh and bring a plus one if you'd like." he winked to which I just laughed. "I would love to come. Just not sure if I'll bring a plus one though!" I replied with another chuckle. "You never know when someone might come along y/n. Always keep that door open mon cher!" he announced before walking down one of the corridors to go back to his office. I stood in the middle of the corridor for a good few seconds before snapping myself out of the trance that I was in. Marcus' comment, for some reason, made me think of Charles but I didn't exactly know why. I mean yeah, he's cute and funny, and romantic, and caring, and hot, and smart, but I couldn't allow myself to fall for him right now. Also he probably had a girlfriend anyway, so there was no point in me looking too deep into how he looked after me the other day when it probably meant nothing to him. I couldn't allow myself to get hurt again.
