Birthday celebrations

Today was October 16th which meant it was Charles' birthday. It happened to fall on a Sunday this year so Charles would be racing this afternoon and then we would all go out to celebrate tonight. For the past few weeks, Pierre and I had been messaging back and forth trying to decide what we should do to celebrate as we knew we wanted it to be a big surprise for him with all of his close family and friends. We booked a very large table for everyone in a fancy restaurant 10 minutes away from the hotel everyone would be staying, as well as a club which was only down the road. I knew that the night was probably going to get quite wild, but after a long race I knew everyone would enjoy it.

I woke up to Charles' arm draped over my body as I rolled over to face him. He was still asleep as it was only 6am and his alarm wasn't due to go off for another 30 minutes yet. I wasn't going to wake him because I knew how important it was for him to keep to a fairly regular sleep schedule from all of the travelling, especially when it was race day. I placed a delicate kiss on his cheek and then reached out for my phone so that I could answer any messages and just scroll through my social media. As usual, I didn't have any messages from my family, who I hadn't heard from in months, but I did have a few from my close friends. I then clicked onto instagram and updated myself with all of the  latest random gossip from the people I followed. I also noticed I had a lot of follow requests from people I didn't know and a few message requests as well. I deleted them all because I sort of guessed that they were going to be Charles' fans who had managed to find out about us and were now trying to find me online. I was thankful that my account was still on private as it had been since I first created it, as I wasn't keen on the idea that random people could just view parts of my life without my knowledge. Dating a celebrity definitely wasn't the best way to stay hidden amongst the crowds, but I suppose you can't help falling in love with some people.

At the track, Charles was getting ready to get in his car before the race started in just 20 minutes time. The engineers were out on the grid making final adjustments to the car and making sure the tires were kept at the optimal temperature. It was fairly warm outside so a few of the drivers had their ice vests on and were trying to find some areas of shade to sit in whilst they waited until they were able to get in their cars. I was on track today in order to take some photos of the drivers before the start of the race, as well as when the lights would go out to signal the start of the grand prix. I kept glancing over in  Charles' direction as I made my way around the area with my camera, talking to a few of the drivers if they were happy to do so and taking pictures of the roaring crowds. He kept trying to get me to go over to him through a series of not so subtle gestures, which some of the grid actually picked up when I was with them.

Finally George just said for me to go over to Charles, otherwise he would just never stop trying and people would start to wonder what he was doing. I obliged and made my way in his direction, instantly a smile appeared on his face when he knew he had succeeded and I rolled my eyes at his slightly childish behaviour. "Mon amour, I can't believe you were going to ignore me on my birthday!" Charles smirked. "Oh my gosh you are such a baby. I was trying to not make things seem obvious in front of all the fans." I laughed. "Ugh good point, but still. How about you take some pictures of the birthday boy, I promise to smile sweetly." he replied playfully. "Ok, just a few. I don't want to distract you from your race mindset." I said as I pulled out my camera and started taking several pictures. "Ok, I need to go back to the others now. Good luck Char!" I told him as he brushed his hand quickly against mine before I walked away.

The race got off to a good start and there were no incidences on the first lap, which is always a good start. Our group then made our way to places around the track for the photographers to get some shots of the race as it unfolded. I had a lovely view of a long straight and a corner in the distance, which was perfect for me to get some amazing photos of drivers trying to pass each other. By the 32nd lap, the scarlet Ferrari of number 16 had made up 6 places after a troublesome qualifying yesterday, and was now in 2nd place behind Max. Oscar was hot on his heels though, trying to do anything he could to make a pass onto the higher podium spot.
