All Athena had been hearing the next day was Harry and Ron talk about the three headed dog. Athena didn't have even the slightest bit of interest in what what the dog was hiding. Hermione hadn't talked to Harry or Ron. She had been keeping in touch with Athena though.
Athena was eating toast and scrambled eggs when post came. She was expecting Peri with a reply letter from her mother. Suddenly a dozen owls flew in carrying two long packages. Athena wondered whose they were. To her surprise, one landed on her and the other on Harry. Then and owl dropped a letter on Harry.
"Athena, this letter is for both of us." Harry called.
He was right it was addressed to her and Harry.
Harry tore open the letter. He then read it in a whisper.
DON'T OPEN THE PARCELS HERE. It contains your new Nimbus Two Thousand's, but I don't want everyone knowing that you two have broom or they'll also want one. Oliver Wood will be meeting you two tonight at the quidditch pitch at seven o'clock for your first training session.
Prof.M.Mcgonagall
Either Harry or Athena found it hard to hide their glee. Harry passed the note to Ron.
"A Nimbus Two Thousand!" He moaned. "I have never even touched one."
As they got up, they were walking quickly as they were really excited to open their brooms, when Draco grabbed Athena's broom and rolled it in his hands.
"A broom I see." Draco said with a evil smirk on his face. Athena smacked his head and grabbed her broom back.
"Not just any old broom," Ron started "it is a Nimbus Two Thousand. What did you say you have got at home, Malfoy, a Comet Two Sixty?" Ron asked grinning at Athena and Harry.
"Comets look flashy, but they are not in the same league as Nimbus." Athena said smirking.
"Shut it Weasly. You can't even afford half the handle." Draco snapped. "I bet you and your brothers have to save up, twig by twig."
Before Ron could say anything, professor Flitwick came from behind Draco's elbow.
"Not arguing I hope boys."
"Potter and Black's got a broom professor." Draco said quickly.
"Ahh... yes I have heard of the special circumstance from Professor Mcgonagall. What is your broom?"
"A Nimbus Two Thousand professor." Harry said.
Athena smirked at Draco's expression of horror.
Athena struggled to pay attention in class as her mind was all on quidditch. But she still managed to score as well as Hermione, which might have cause Hermione to be jealous of her. Athena didn't mind at all.
Finally it was half past six. Athena sprinted down the hallways to the quidditch pitch. When she checked the time, it was only quarter to seven. She couldn't wait so she mounted her broom and took of, it was a wonderful feeling, in a bit, Harry also joined her. They were doing loops in the air. They pulled up in just an inch above the ground.
"Oi, Potter, Black, come down."
Athena heard Wood call them so she landed.
"You guys are a natural." Wood said. "Ok, quidditch is really easy to understand but not really easy to play. There are seven players in each team. One keeper, two beaters, three chasers and one seeker."
He then open the crate which he had brought with him. Athena knew how the game was played but still listened to make sure. Oliver took out the quaffle.
"This is the quaffle. Black -"
"- Athena"
Wood looked confused when Athena interrupted him.
"Call me Athena. I don't like to be called Black." Athena said.
"Right." He started. "Athena, Katie and Angelina, our chasers will pass the quaffle to each other and try to score a hoop. Each hoop is worth ten points. And the keeper, that's me, defends the hoops."
"Ok, Wood. What are those?" Harry asked pointing at the bludgers.
"You better hold this." He said as he gave a club like bat to Harry. He unlocked a bludger and the bludger zoomed up and then came down straight towards Harry. Harry hit it and it zoomed away, but this time coming in for Wood. He pinned it to the ground and locked it again in the crate with great effort. "These... are bludgers. They fly around trying to knock players of the brooms. That's why we have beaters to divert the bludgers to the opposite team member."
"What if it hits my head?" Harry asked.
"Oh, don't worry. That won't happen cause the Weasly twins are our beaters. They are more than a match as they are like a pair of human bludgers themselves." Wood said. Athena chuckled.
"All I want you to worry about is this..." He said pulling out the golden snitch. "This is the snitch. It flies at a very high speed which makes it impossible for people to see it. Your job if to catch this before the other team seeker does. The game ends only when the snitch is caught."
"Ok, if I fly without getting hit by bludgers." Harry replied which made Athena chuckle.
The rest of the training went well. Harry wasn't practicing with the real snitch, he was practicing with golf balls as this was their first session. Athena had to try and score goals past Wood with a quaffle. She scored seventeen hopes out of twenty. She missed the first three. Athena was on cloud nine. She had just gotten into the quidditch team! She still thought it was a dream, but she knew it was real.
She went up to her dormitory and laid down. She knew she had missed dinner but it didn't bother her. She was content and that was all that mattered to her. She fell asleep in no time.
