Emerald lifts her chin the same way she always did to seem as tall as me. A joke that stopped being a joke.
She nods once and I do the same in response.
To death, no magic.
A wordless promise.
She bolts towards me, I duck, her sword cuts through a few unlucky strands of my hair.
Her sword came at me, I held mine horizontally over my face.
She grunts pushing her weapon closer to me.
Lucas stands beside me, restless. He won't fight without orders.
I can't bring myself to attack the girl I raised in the absence of our mother. However, I sigh.
Metal screamed on metal as I twist the sword out of her hand, before she can move, her arms are twisted behind her back.
She yells and I flinch at the realization I am actually hurting her.
I point towards the palace with my chin.
"Em, listen to me. I am going to do something, very stupid, okay? I am going to let you go, but you're not going to stop me or fight me. Understood?"
I give her arms a rough tug to get an answer out of her.
"Yes! Yes." She pants out.
I let her arms go, she drops to the grounds.
Before she can recover, Lucas and I have already entered the palace.
It's complete darkness. Not a single light on. It doesn't help that the sun has already set outside. The little light we could've gotten is blocked out by curtains.
"Home sweet home," Lucas whispers beside me, his gun in his hands in front of him. He's now in complete war-mode. His entire personality changes.
"Your majesty," A voice whispers beside me.
"Dex, take two soldiers, cover the east wing. Clarissa with you?"
"Yes ma'am," She responds from my left.
"You lead the west wing, if you see something - tell me. Do not attempt to take her down with bullets, it's impossible. Most likely, she already knows we're here."
"Essie...Ocean?"
I wait till Dex and Clarissa have gone before telling him, "She has powers now, plus Azrael is with her. I am just hoping they've reached somewhere safe."
"It's Themis, Essie. There is nowhere safe."
He's right.
"You go north, I'll cover south."
He nods and we both depart into different directions.
