you and stan sat at the marsh's long dining table, accompanied by the rest of his family. their house was decorated in a farmhouse style on the inside, with lots of pictures of stan shelly and marijuana leaves.
"so y/n it's been a while, how's life in cali?" sharon pops a meatball in her mouth as she looks at you, breaking the long silence that sat before.
"it's way different than here.. it's so cold here." you laugh quietly.
"it's not that bad once you get used to it. it's not like alaska or anything." randy spoke, his bushy mustache moving with his lips.
"that's.. true-" you looked down at the spaghetti your aunt had made, poking it with your fork. "um.. aunt sharon? do you have any idea when my dad will be back?"you hated being a bother. you felt as if staying for dinner was already bad enough, you didn't want to end up overstaying your welcome with the marshes. even if they were your family.
"oh. um no i'm not sure y/n." she looked at randy. "they shouldn't be too much longer though he usually doesn't stay out past dark right?"
you nodded and the room got quiet once again."so how's shelly?" you start again. you and shelly had always been super close when you were together. as much as you loved stan, shelly would do all the girly things with you that stan wouldn't. she was like an older sister, painting your nails and watching barbie movies.
"she's good! she actually lives on campus now, she's going to the university of denver." randy speaks up.
"that's great." you smile as the tension in the air seems to lift a tad. "i'd like to see her soon."
"she comes back home every once in a while, i'm sure she'd love to see you too." sharon smiles warmly.stans phone suddenly went off, causing everyone to look up.
"shit-"
"stanley. language." sharon spoke without looking at him.
"yeah, sorry mom." he said monotoned while frantically typing. "i have to go pick up kyle, his car got stuck." he stood up from his chair and quickly threw on his coat."take y/n stan." randy got up and grabbed stan's plate.
stan stopped in the middle of tying his shoes and looked at you.
"well, cmon." he went back to tying his shoes, a small smile appearing on his face.
"oh!" you got up and threw on your doc martens."yeah kyle, i'm almost there just hold on. yeah. uh my cousins with me- yes i- kyle, i don't think that's gonna be necessary." stan drove while his shoulder held his phone up to his ear. you could hear a distressed voice on the other side of the line. stan would roll his eyes every once in a while.
"dude, i'm hanging up i'll be there soon." he took one hand off the wheel to hang up on his friend. "jesus christ."
"he seems worried?" you smirked.
"i've never met someone with such an overactive mind." he looked to the side. "well other than you i guess."you smiled to yourself as you thought about times when you and stan were kids. playing superheroes and cops and robbers.
"well hopefully he's okay." you looked out the window.down the white street you noticed a gray suv on the side of the road with hazards on.
"is that him?" you point.
stan squints his eyes toward the car. "yeah that's him."he pulls off to the side of the road, carefully not going too far as to not get stuck in the same place kyle did. he stepped out of his truck.
"you want to stay here?" he asked you from outside the truck, his breath visible in the air.
"uh no i can help-" you grab onto to the handle of the car.
"okay. grab the floor mat." stan pulls the floor mat from the drivers side and runs over to the suv.
you sigh heavily as you pulled the mat out of the truck."jesus this is heavier than it looks-" you felt your face turn red as you trudged through the thick snow.
stan laughed and ran up to the driver side of the car.
"kyle!" the window rolled down.
"stan you're here! thank god i was starting to-" kyles voice cracked.
"okay kyle i'm gonna put these mats underneath your tires and when i say go you hit the gas. got it?"
