an alarm went off loudly next to your bed. your hand flew over to your phone, just barely missing it.
"ughhh.." you pulled your pillow over your head and groaned.
it was your first day at south park high school. even though it was only september and school had only been back for a couple weeks, you knew that everyone in this town already knew each other since elementary school. so the thought of being a random new girl worried you.

you sat up in your bed, the pink walls blinding you.

i'm gonna need to personalize this room soon.

you stood up and turned off your alarm. 6:30am. way too early. your puffy eyes adjusted to the light as you stepped into the bathroom, brushing your hair and teeth.
"morning hon." your dad walked into the bathroom doorway, seemingly all dressed and ready for the day.
you spit your toothpaste into the sink and wiped the excess off your lips.
"morning dad- you seem chipper for an early monday morning." you chuckled, your voice semi low from just waking up.
"well i gotta get down to the shop for work. just figured i should come in and say hi." he smiled. "have a good first day, okay?"
you nodded at him and he was off.

after getting dressed, you turned on your phone to look at the weather. snow. cold. you opened your basically empty closet and pulled out a vintage tan penny lane coat that you bought a couple years ago but never got the chance to wear in california. you threw on your boots and made sure you had everything in your bag. you counted your notebooks and folders, each with a galaxy or star print.
"...kay all good." you opened the door. feeling the cold air hit you immediately woke you up.

your dad lived two streets behind the school, meaning it was a short walk there. as you walked, you noticed lots of kids followed. most of them had people next to them, talking and laughing. you looked down at your feet and sighed, a puff of air showing through the cold air.

suddenly you felt a sudden force behind you. your hand felt your back, bits of snow falling as you brushed it off.
"i got you!" wendy ran up behind you giggling.
"hey wendy-" you giggled back. she kneeled down to make another snowball, showing off her competitive side. she glanced around for another person to throw the snow at.
"hey craig!" she called out.
a boy in blue, who you recognized from the coffee shop, turned around with an eyebrow arched. wendy threw the ball at him, hitting the middle of his chest.
"ha!" she smiled.

the boy flipped her off silently, turning back around to walk into the school. she stuck her tongue out in response.
"so, do you have your schedule yet?" wendy looked back toward you. you felt lucky to have a friend to walk with.
"no, i'm supposed to get it from the counselor in the office." you started to fiddle with your hands at the thought of navigating the school yourself.
"i'll come with you." she lightly nudged you.
"oh you dont have-"
"y/n, i'll come with you." she chuckled. "plus it gives me an excuse to show up late for first hour." you smiled to yourself. the two of you walked into the school, everyone was gathered in the front foyer of the building. seemingly assembled into groups of 3-5.

you and wendy weaved in between students as you made your way to the office.
"almost there." wendy dashed through the halls, every once in a while making sure you were following close behind.
"okay. we're here." she stopped suddenly in front of a door which had a sign labeled 'office'. you walked in solo, wendy waited for you outside the entry.

"hi, i'm y/n, here for my schedule." you said to the lady at the front desk.
"oh yes miss l/n! alright, here you go." she handed you a piece of paper lined with your class blocks. "do you need a student to show you to your first class?"
"no i've got someone. thank you ma'am." you gripped the paper and read it as you walked out.

1st- gym
2nd- earth science
3rd- calculus
4th- off hour
5th- lunch
6th- art

you cringed at the thought of having gym first. you did not want to have to go through the rest of the day all sweaty. but at least you got all the other classes you wanted. and you even had an extra long lunch. coming out of the office you noticed wendy across the hall, now accompanied by stan. the two stood close to each other, giggling as stan twirled her hair in his finger.
you smiled to yourself at how much your cousin loved her. you hoped someone would be like that with you one day.
