it was wednesday, the following week of homecoming. you had gotten apologetic talks from bebe about winning queen, to which you assured her it was okay. the week had gone by excruciating slow. without kyle around, time seemed to sedate.

another thing about your week was that you seemed to see kevin everywhere. you never really noticed him before, but the two of you ran into each other all the time. after gym class, you saw him in the halls. at lunch with the girls, you saw him at the table next to you. his eyes always fell onto yours.

you found out later that him and red had gotten into a fight during homecoming, you didn't ask for any more information. it was lunch and you sat down at your table, no tray.
"you not gonna eat?" nichole questioned.
"not hungry." you shrugged. if you were being honest, you felt nervous about kyle coming back. he was supposed to come back tomorrow morning, and would be back in your math class. you decided you had to tell him how you feel.

wendy sat down next to you with stan, who smiled at you.
"you excited to see you know who?" he asked.
"of course." you looked down, unconvincing.
"you don't seem excited." he mumbled. wendy elbowed him.
"i guess i'm nervous." you fiddled with your hands when your phone vibrated.

wends ❤️: someone's got their eye on u 👀

you glanced at her before looking back to the table in front of you. kevin's eyes locked onto you. he smiled and looked down.
"oh no.." you whispered.
"oh no what?" bebe giggled.
"nothing!" you stood up. "i'm gonna go to the bathroom."

before you could make your way to the bathroom, a hand grabbed onto your wrist tightly. you winced slightly. you turned to see kevin. he wasn't super intimidating, he was only a little bit taller than you.
"what are you doing?" you questioned.
"i just saw you hurry over.. i wanted to make sure you were okay."
"i'm fine. just needed some air." you pulled your hand away.
"you need any company?"
"no, kevin."

you turned your back and continued to walk outside. you set yourself upon the front steps and sighed.
"what was that about?" stan's voice came from behind you.
"oh, hey stan." he came and sat by you.
"you okay?"
"i think so." you looked down. "actually i don't know."
"you want to talk?"

you smiled at him and he returned the gesture.
"i just.. something happened at the party and it's been eating at me."
"with kevin?" he said knowingly.
you nod slowly and look away.
"am i a horrible person?" you bury your head.
"no. of course not." he put his arm around you and you leaned onto his shoulder. "there's nothing horrible about feeling lonely." he looked down.
"do you ever feel lonely, stan?"
"of course i do." he chuckled. "everyone does."
"you're right." you thought for a moment. "i think i should tell kyle how i feel about him."
"i agree." stan nodded.
"but i'd feel horrible about kevin.."
"screw kevin. you have to think about yourself sometimes. what would make you happy?"

as if on cue, a gray suv pulled up to the side parking lot.
"what..?" you squinted at the car, your favorite red head started to step out.
"oh shit. i forgot he said he was coming home early."
as kyle started to get closer he realized you and stan were the ones sitting on the steps. his face contorted into confusion.

"what's going on here?" he laughed.
"hey man-" stan stood up and gave kyle a hug. the quick kind of hug with a back pat.
"y/n!" kyle smiled at you and opened his arms. you smiled back and gave into his hug. your muscles relaxed as you felt the comfort you'd been craving ever since he left.
