I stepped outside answering the phone call feeling the cold new york air and breathing it in. The warm, homey smell of Pearls was gone.
"Hello? Zora?" My mother spoke as I stared out into the street. The comfort, the joy, the happiness thats was in me seconds ago had made its exit.
"Yes Shanice?" I answered bluntly, folding my arms against my chest.
"Baby don't be like that. How have you been- I mean we haven't talked in a bit. We miss you."
"I don't know Shanice, Ive been doing pretty okay since you kicked me out and told me I would be nothing." I scowled, I'de had enough of her acting like everything was okay and trying to "move past" what she did.
"Me and your father-"
"You know what, this is not a really good time so ill talk to you later." I spoke sternly trying to end the call.
"Sweetie, we'll be in town next month and we wanted to catch up?" She tried to negotiate but I wasn't for it.
"I don't know Shanice Ill keep in touch." I hung up quickly before she could drag out the conversation any more. I lifted up my head to the clouds trying to blink away the tears in effort to not ruin my mascara.
"Fuck." I whispered as a tear rolled down my face. Swiping it away quickly I tried to gather myself so I didn't embarrass myself in the middle of the sidewalk.
I trudged back into the diner standing in-front of our table instead of sitting. I could tell De'andre picked up on my expression.
"Zo, are you alrig-"
"Yeah Im okay, can we just get out of here please?" I practically pleaded. He stood up immediately agreeing as he swung his arm over my shoulder walking me to the door. I stopped for a moment and looked back at Denny nodding at him to let him know I was leaving.
As we got in his car I could tell he was avoiding asking to many questions.
"Uh where do you wanna go?" He asked glancing over at me.
"Anywhere I don't care, I just need a distraction for the day." I desperately did, if I wanted anything it was to not think about her.

D E ' A N D R E S P O VWe pulled up to the building and we both hopped out the car looking around at the fairly dangerous neighborhood.
"What is this place?" Zora asked.
"You'll see." I said grabbing her hand and leading her into the building. We rode the dingy lift to the loft of the building and I led her into the open room.
"Now can you tell me what we're doing here so I can make sure your not trying to traffic me?" She said in a chuckle as her voice echoed through the large broken down building. Earning laugh from me I walked to the center of the room.
"I come here a lot actually, I've been thinking about renovating this building for a long time." I said pulling out my phone. She walked over with her hands in her pocket. I opened my files showing her a model of what I was picturing. "Ive been thinking of turning it into a community center or something for the people."
"Wow, I mean I thought you just owned a magazine company," She said looking at me with her eyes big and her smile wide. "Thats amazing, but why this property?"
"Well when I first decided to move to the U.S, this was my neighborhood. I was dirt poor and the community helped me, in short words they took care of me." I said remembering the heartfelt memories of my times in America after just moving.
"Oh and you haven't even seen the best part yet." I said grabbing her hand and leading her up the stairs. I opened the heavy door at the top of the staircase leading to a rooftop that overlooked half of the city. She let go of my hand running over to the ledge of the building like a child. I smiled at her as she looked back at me.
"Oh my god this is amazing!" Zora exclaimed. I walked over to her looking over the ledge with her. "The view is so beautiful it kinda makes me want to jump," She said as I looked over at her concerned. "Im joking of course. She clarified as I nodded and laughed with her. We sat there for a few moments before I came to a realization.
"Zo." I said as she turned to look at me. "Im so glad we figured this out, I know we haven't known each-other that long but I feel like I can really trust you," I explained. "and if you ever have something to get off your chest or if you ever need someone to talk to, I want you to know you can trust me." She barely let me finish my sentence before she jumped on me hugging me so tight like she was about to kill me.
"Oh thank you for saying that. I feel so safe around you for some reason not to sound corny or anything." She said backing away as I just shook my head. Zora glared at her apple watch then looked back at me. "Its almost 6, its getting pretty late." She said with a smirk as she looked up at me innocently.
"I guess we should head out of her then huh?" I said picking up on what she was doing. She nodded and hummed grabbing my hand and leading me out of the building into the car. As soon as we got into the car she leaned over and smashed her lips onto mine as I was surprised and payed the action back.
"Your on fire huh?" I said in shock and excitement as her hand trailed down to my bulge.
"I guess so." She said with a smile.
