When Life Gives you Lemons, don't Chuck them at Him because Karma's a Bitch
I continuously wiped my face off with a towel, as if I could wash away my red cheeks. Today seemed to be a big blur compared to my walk with Christopher. All I could think about was what he said and did and his bare chest!
My face flushed even more in the mirror’s reflection, my heart thumping so fast I thought it might explode. Everyone says not to get so hung over a boy, that if you’re in too deep it’ll only hurt more in the end.
But honestly, who could ignore such a feeling?! I sure as heck couldn’t!
Securing the towel wrapped around me, I rushed out of my bathroom and ran to the closest. I clicked on the light switch as all my outfits dangled from thousands of hangers. I stared at them all, debating, before pulling my cell phone out from my bag and texting Dee to come up.
Dee came in a few minutes later. “Jesus, you must want me fired. Your parents were beside me when you sent that message.”
“Whatever, they don’t pay attention at this time anyway,” I grumbled. It was more like they never paid attention. I could be having sex on the Goddamn table and they wouldn’t notice!
But my face flushed again as I pictured Christopher in that situation, before giggling. “Just help me with this, okay?” I asked to shake the thought.
Dee quickly peeked at what I was wearing –or really, what I wasn’t- before raising an eyebrow. “Honestly, you don’t even know where your clothes are from?” Dee suddenly grumbled, walking to the closest. “You're fourteen already Melody. I shouldn’t have to lay your clothes out for you anymore.”
“No, I just need help choosing an outfit. Please!”
But then all today’s events suddenly bunched together in my mind, and I had a great urge to tell her. I stared at Dee. “Its, well, kind of that guy again. I get a ride from him tomorrow!” I squealed, even happier that I finally admitted it out loud.
I would have expected Dee to be happy, or even joking that I was a player or something, but she just stared at me. I waited a few seconds, wondering if she’d suddenly went deaf. She was getting old.
“You sure about this?” She asked at last.
“Of…of course.” I felt almost discouraged to say yes. Who replies to something like that? I really needed to find some girls who actually liked talking about boys.
Dee shook her head, sighing. “I hate to be the responsible one here. Really, I do. Most parents go through this talk with their children, but seeing your family situation…”
Oh no. Was she going to have that talk with me? Something about boys and sex and I can’t trust any of them?!
I glared. “What if Katherine drove me home?” I tested.
She blinked, but sighed. “Katherine? I don’t believe I’ve met her…”
“Ah ha! You're being sexist!” I exclaimed, and Dee nearly jumped when I pointed an accusing finger at her. “If it’s a girl, then it’s fine for me to get a ride, but a boy? No way, out of the question. I hope you know not all girls out there are good, and some guys are even better.”
Dee stared at me, before laughing. “I guess you're right. I’m sorry Melody, I suppose I shouldn’t judge. I’m not your mother so I can’t force you into anything. Anyway, what was it you wanted?”
I looked back at the closest, before holding up a shirt to my chest. I looked at the full length mirror beside my closest.
“I wanted to get some advice on what to wear when he picks me up.”
