It's finally the first game day of the season.

If I'm going to be honest, I don't really want to play. It's not because I don't want to, but because this officially starts the beginning of the end.

I know I have all of college to go, but it's still sad to think about how this is my last high school season. It makes me wish that I would've enjoyed every moment a little bit more, because they flew by in the blink of an eye.

Two state championships, a season ending ankle injury, and countless other memories later, I can truly say I've done everything when it comes to playing for Eden Hall's soccer team. However, there's one thing still missing. The final state championship I need to complete the trifecta. And there's absolutely no way I'm ending my high school soccer career without it.

There's a bittersweet feeling that washes over me as I pull my jersey over my head. It's literally just a piece of fabric, but it means so much to me. I've been through it all in this uniform, and I'm not sure how I'm supposed to give it up when the season ends.

I've just finished parting my hair when Morgan comes walking into the bathroom, completely ready from head to toe. She's wearing a "Yale Women's Soccer" sweatshirt over her uniform, and her fluffy white slippers are honestly the star of the whole outfit.

"Nice shoes." I joke, a snicker escaping my mouth. "I didn't know it was pajama day."

"Oh shut up." she replies, lightly shoving my shoulder with a barely restrained smile. "I didn't feel like wearing sneakers and these are the first things I grabbed. Ready?"

I nod and sit on the bathtub ledge, smiling to myself as I allow myself to take in this moment with Morgan. She always braids my hair on game days, and it's a tradition we started during freshman year playoffs. We've done it for every game since, and I can't think of any other way to start today off.

Morgan does the same hairstyle that she always does for me, which is just two little french braids in the center of my hair. Once she's finished, I quickly admire it before pulling it back into my signature high ponytail and watch as she gets started on her own hair.

Sadie comes in and joins us a few minutes later, with her "Boston College Women's Soccer" sweatshirt on as well. I have my "Minnesota Women's Soccer" sweatshirt on too, because it's a tradition at Eden Hall to take a picture of all the committed seniors on their last first game day. I'm not complaining though, because I've worked hard to achieve my dreams and I'm very proud of myself for reaching them.

I finished getting ready pretty early, so I have nothing to do but sit here and keep my friends company while they get ready themselves. I'm mindlessly scrolling through my Instagram feed when my jaw suddenly drops, as I come across the post that everyone's been waiting for.
