"Dad?" Yeonjun knocks on the door of his father's private office, turning the knob and opening the heavy door before the mentioned can answer.
Yeonjun's hand remains on the doorknob when his father perks his head up at him from where he's sitting, looking through his glasses.
Yeonjun only ever sees his dad wearing his glasses when he's hidden alone in this room—he hates them, says the strings attached to them make him look old. In front of others, he prefers to struggle with blurry words than even dare think of wearing his 'old man' glasses.
He puts said glasses on his head to indicate that he's giving his son one hundred percent of his attention, but not without a disapproving look first because his son knows not to barge into his room. Even if he wasn't exactly barging in.
"Dad, I think it's time..." Yeonjun hesitates, grip tightening on the door knob. Does he really want to do this? This is his last chance to back out otherwise from here onwards-
His father tilts his head at him, eyes narrowing in confusion and slight intrigue. He has an idea on what the topic is about from his son's demeanour. He only gets clammy like this when he and his wife have discussed Yeonjun finding his omega. He's been firmly against it so far, for whatever reason, and shown no sign of changing from his stubborn ways.
If his suspicion is right, why the sudden change?
"I think it's time I found an omega," he breathes out and winces like he's received a blow to the stomach.
Now, Iseul should be relieved that his son has finally decided to settle down. He's almost twenty-four and still hasn't found a mate, which for a future head-alpha is unusual.
Head-alpha's (and those to be) are supposed to be strong and put together. Marriage is the most seen way of showing this because most assume if you don't have a good relationship, and a strong partner to help guide you, you're weak. It's why Iseul's always pushes the idea of marriage onto his kid. He doesn't think Yeonjun's weak at all, but once he steps down—or passes—those in his clan may turn on Yeonjun if they disagree.
The only problem is, Yeonjun's never rushed finding his omega. He hasn't attempted to get to know anyone like that, nor has he ever seemed interested, so his father's concern at his sudden change in mind can't be blamed.
"You..." he says to be certain it's Yeonjun they're talking about, pointing his index finger out at Yeonjun and sweeping his eyes from his son head-to-toe. "Want to find an omega?"
Yeonjun nods in confirmation, lips thin. "I do."
His dad blinks at him, index finger still held out (forgetting it's there). He blinks another two times before inhaling deeply and squinting at his son. "Did your mother talk you into it?"
"No," Yeonjun keeps his answers short, his dad's already suspicious, and if he rambles he might reveal crucial information regarding the reason for his sudden interest in an omega.
"So, you just decided it on your own..?"
"Pretty much, yep." Yeonjun nods and gives another thin smile. Nothing could be more awkward than this, the thin of his lips and his eyes wandering low as he waits for his dad to say something.
His mouth twists curiously when his dad doesn't speak and his eyes flicker to his father.
"Okay," his dad exasperates, throwing a hand up in defeat, not that he's willing to argue when he's one of the few who've been pushing the idea of bonding onto Yeonjun for a few years now. He just doesn't understand what changed.
"Good..." Yeonjun says, standing at the doorway idly. "Great."
"You can go now, unless you have something else to say." Yeonjun's father has already gone back to the documents he must've been reading before Yeonjun disturbed him, glasses back over his eyes.
