R I L E Y

"Riley!" I heard Jade yell in my ear.

I lifted my sheets up even higher to try and block out the sound of her yells, but the fabric was paper-thin.

"Riley! The fundraiser is today! Everyone's already downstairs and ready."

"What time is it?" I groaned.

"It's noon."

"Oh, crap."

I got out of bed and started getting ready as fast as I could.

I took a shower, did my hair, and put on some jeans, a plain shirt, and a leather jacket over it.

"Woah! New record." Jade said, looking at her watch in amazement. "Eighteen minutes and nine seconds. Impressive."

Suddenly, I heard a loud knock on my door and Jade went over to open it, revealing Connor standing there with two guitar cases in either hand, making me wonder how he was able to knock.

"Wow, you're actually ready for once." He said as Toby came up from behind him and started clapping his hands and I played along by taking a humble bow.

"Alright, let's go," Toby said, trying to move us along and push us down the stairs. "Don't want to be late."

As soon as we all got to the bottom, Jade left my side to hug Braiden, who was a little startled as he didn't see it coming, but he hugged back with very little hesitation. Jade and Braiden had always seemed to get along really well and it bothered me a lot; more than it actually should.

"So are we going or what?" Jade questioned, holding her hand out for me to take, but I wrapped my arm around her waist instead.

"Let's go!" Connor exclaimed, being the leader as usual. He was twirling the keys around his index finger in an attempt to look cool. It was working; sort of. I mean, he hasn't dropped them yet which is slightly unusual, because he's such a klutz.

We all ran out the door at the same time, getting trapped for a second, before running over to Connor's car where all of us were forced to squeeze in. It was a very tight fit and Jade had to sit on my lap, while her legs were hanging off of Braiden's legs. It was just really uncomfortable. That's it.

"How many people do you think will show up?" Toby asked as he tried to make himself seen from in between Thomas and Ryan.

"I'd say two or three." Jade replied, laughing.

"Thanks, Jade," Toby said, his tone bitter.

"You didn't let me finish!"

"Two or three hundred, because you guys are going to be amazing, as usual."

"Thanks, Jade." I said, mimicking Toby, but in a much sweeter tone.

A couple of minutes had passed and no one was talking, which made the atmosphere slightly uncomfortable. It was really weird because most of the time none of us would be able to shut up — except for Ryan, because Ryan was always quiet.

"Guys, I have to tell you someth—" Jade began to say, but Connor cut her off.

"We're here!"

"So what were you supposed to say?" I questioned as we all got out of the car and into the heat of the sun.

"Oh, it's nothing important." She replied, putting on her sunglasses and handing me a pair. "I knew you would forget."
