"You did what?" Sara demanded to know, her voice was loud, anger was building up on her face. If I didn't know any better I dare to say she wants to kill me. "How could you tell her Ezie," She asks. "Why would you tell her?"
"Well," The words stopped coming to me, it was like my brain had no idea how or why I ended up telling Alissa about Ash five days ago. "I don't know Sara, I was just tired of living in a lie in the first relationship I have." I explained, but Sara's tone didn't change at all.
"Well, must I remind you that you didn't come to London in search of a relationship," She snapped, her voice only getting louder. "You came in search of your brother." Silence ate the room at the mention of my brother, for the first time in the journey of finding Jeremiah, I felt genuine guilt.
Sara took her time to cool off. She left her office and went outside to the balcony to smoke a cigarette and get her mind off of things, so I followed. "I'm sorry Sara," Sara puts her finger on my lips and interrupts me, "Don't," she says. "It was my fault, I shouldn't be trying to take control over your decisions."
"Shut up love, you know how much your advice means to me, and you're not wrong I had no reason to tell her," I say. "It's just, this is the first time I fall in love with someone and I assumed it'd be weird later on. I mean what if I find a clue and I must lie in order to go looking for him. What if Ash ends up popping up and she starts asking questions or making assumptions?"
I stop to take a deep breath because I'm unable to catch up with the words in my head. "You're in love with her?" Sara asks.
"Yeah, I guess I'm in love with her." her face finally releases the anger that's been drawn on it all this time and is replaced with a bright smile that lit up the mood quite a bit.
Sara pulls out her cigarette pack and offers me a cigarette, "To love." She raises her cigarette up high.
"You know I don't smoke." I say to her while trying to understand which side the cigarette lights from. "To love," Sara repeats, "and to hold the cigarette correctly." She takes the cigarette from me and lights it then hands it back to me, "To getting lung cancer." I say as I raise my cigarette up.
"Well," Sara says as she takes a sip of her cigarette. "What do you plan on doing now that you guys are together."
"I don't necessarily know if we are together yet," I'm still miserably failing at smoking a cigarette because I can't say a word without coughing six times in between them. "but I guess we are." I add.
She shoots me a look I don't understand but I can assume it was a look of disappointment, "So you're telling me you love her, but you still don't know if you're together?" Sara asks, and now that the words have been thrown into reality it does seem kind of stupid to not know what's your relationship status with someone who spent a night at your place and told you all about their childhood.
Not to mention the two beautiful date nights that we had at the lovely abandoned church. "Yes my love, that's exactly what I'm telling you."
Sara spent the next five minutes laughing at me, calling me all sorts of names, but all laughter in the room died when Alissa called me, "I'm coming over tonight," her voice seemed urgent, I could sense that she was in a hurry because she couldn't catch her breath. "I'll be there in 2 hours, bye." And she hangs up.
Sara and I stare at each other for quite some time before she finally breaks the awkward silence. "Well," She says as she takes a deep breath in, "that was something."
"What do you think it is?" I ask with concern in my voice.
"I have no clue Ezie, I wish I could help." She replies gently.
