Chapter 8 : Eyes of Eternal Night

"Shut down!? What the hell is that supposed to mean!? How can Hope's Peak be shut down!?"

I shrugged at Mitch's response. He ran his hand through his hair, shaking his head in a mix of shock and annoyance.

"...Fuck! How the hell is that possible? What else happened!?"

"Nothing too huge. Besides talking about the new areas, Tsurugi agreed to let the others join the group if they choose."

Mitch paused, and turned to look at me, "...He actually agreed to that?"

I nodded, "What about the computer? Did you manage to turn it on?"

He shook his head.

"The thing's totally busted... About Tsurugi's deal...Only them, right?"

I opened my mouth, but slowly closed it.

Despite the fact that Mitch tried to kill me, I felt bad for making him feel isolated, albeit accidentally. Maybe Kiyoka's say-without-thinking habit rubbed off on me...

He didn't seem very bothered, "I get it. I tried to kill. I'm a piece of human garbage. I deserve this and to rot in hell."

"Mitch... that's not true. You stopped yourself before anything actually happened, so-"

He gave a small scoff, "And? My life is over when we get out of here. Even if the motive was fake, I'm sure all my fans will hate me when they find out what I did."

"You can't be sure of that... Kiyoka and I will defend you, and-" I cut myself off as I saw him shake his head. There wasn't a hint of anger or frustration on his face, just blank acceptance. He had all day by himself to mull it over after all...

"...Kiyoka...I apologized to her, too, y'know. Wanna know what she said to me? She said, 'Don't be sorry Mitch, be better."

"That sounds like something she'd say." I laughed a bit.

"Well that's what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna be better. It doesn't excuse what I did, but..." He shrugged, "I don't know...I'm not good at apologizing for stuff. I regret what I did and I wanna make up for it, alright?"

I gave him a pat on the shoulder, "Hey, I'm proud of you."

"Hello~! This is a school announcement. It is now 10PM, as such it is nighttime. The dining hall will be locked and it will be an off-limits area. Have good dreams and a good night everyone!"

Nighttime already?

"Let's get some rest, Mitch. We both need it." I smiled. He nodded in response, before beginning to head back to his dorm.

"Night, Y/n."

I waved back to him and we both went our separate ways.

From the attempted murder, getting saved in the nick of time, Tsurugi becoming a dictator, almost getting exposed, and everything else that went wrong today, I was finally getting some well needed rest.

Kiyoka giggled a bit as I basically threw myself on the bed, quickly covering the bracelet with a pillow on my arm. She got in bed beside me, and I was out like a light.

...

"Y/n!"

I felt an impatient hand poke and prod at my face. If it wasn't for the fact that my head was on the pillow on my arm, I might've revealed my bracelet when I reflexively swat at Kiyoka's hand.

"...Wha...."

"Y/n, It's 6AM."

"Fucking finally...survived night four..."
