"And so the treasure of Mad John was lost forever," the old man foretold on this smoky night. "That was over 200 years ago lads. No one has dared go back to that fearsome jungle."
A short man with dark hair smirked at the old man's warning. How adorable to see someone afraid of a few cats. The man snatched the map from the old man's hands and rolled it open, glancing at him to dare take it away from his hands.
He looked down, seeing the precise spot where the treasure is buried. He grinned, "No one...until now."
"Nothing in this life comes for free, Mr. Rokoff" the old man rubbing his fingers together for money.
"Count Rokoff," Rokoff's companion sterned at the old man, glaring at him for disrespecting his boss. "You will address him by his proper name and title!"
"Still calling ourselves a Count, are we?" the old man smirked, amused at Rokoff. "The way I hear it, you've been stripped of that title, lad."
"Insolent fool!" Rokoff's companion grabbed the old man's collar and lifted him up threateningly but Rokoff raised a hand.
"Alexis, please. There is no need to resort to brutality. Pay the man and let us be on our way," Rokoff stoically stated, not surprised by Alexis' actions.
Alexis narrowed his eyes at the old man and dropped him, noticing his face was getting paler.
"He should learn some respect," Alexis spat, going through his pockets.
"Yes," Rokoff walked over. "But we are not to be his teachers. Now pay him."
Alexis grumbled and tossed the bag of coins to the old man who grinned at the weight of it. He looked up at the men and smirked. "I thank you, gentlemen. It's been a pleasure doing business with you."
The old man shook the bag tauntingly and walked off while the men stared after him.
"Likewise," Rokoff replied but the old man stopped and looked back at them.
"Oh, Count Rokoff. A word of advice, as I said, nothing in this life comes for free and the price will be your life if you go trotting into that Valley of the Leopards."
Rokoff only stared at him blankly, not an ounce of fear was shown in his expression.
"Just a friendly word of warning," the man walked away.
As the man was gone from view, Rokoff grinned, looking down at the map. His companion, however, felt like they should think more thoroughly about their decision.
"Count Rokoff?" Alexis glanced at him but Rokoff chuckled.
"Alexis, this Valley of the Leopards is nothing more than an old sailor's tale, but the treasure is real and it will be mine. And heaven help anyone, man or beast, who dares get in my way..."
