Her brother was right...as Karuma walked beneath the trees, they seemed to reach out and embrace her. Welcoming her...accepting her, even though she was but half elf. Elves and trees shared a deep bond that spanned millennia...siblings of the ages...and ages passed beneath these ancient residents, a whole different world lay beneath their boughs, like stepping back in time.
"Are you alright, sweetheart? A lot just happened..." Sesshomaru asked after they had walked for a bit, his hand squeezing hers tighter, concern lacing his voice...and something else was in his tone. She was alright...but perhaps he wasn't. She stopped walking and turned to face him, tilting her head up to meet his eyes in the darkness. His jaw ticked...a sure sign something was bothering him.
"I'm fine, love. A bit overwhelmed about having a twin...and a little upset that he was kept a secret from me all this time. After all is taken care of, I may have to pay the hounds a visit and voice my displeasure. If my mother was a princess among our kind...that is certainly no way to treat a prince...as a common guard. A punishment for his birth? Indeed, I may have to bang some heads together...are you alright, Sesshomaru? I mean, a lot just happened."
"They treated you far worse than him. You are far too soft, to trust someone you only just met...brother or not. I reserve judgment, for now. But, know this Karuma, if he hurts you in any way, I will kill him. I care not the circumstances he was in, he should have come to you at the first opportunity he had...it would have saved you a lot of pain and suffering if he had been there to protect you, love you...be the damn brother he was supposed to be. I am not impressed with his actions thus far, or to be precise, his lack of action. He should be ashamed of himself for the way he treated you."
Karuma sighed...of course Sesshomaru did have a point, and he was only watching out for her...but she could tell there was something more than what he had said...something else was bothering him. "I get it, Sesshomaru. You are right, of course...and I reserve judgment as well. His actions are deplorable, but we don't know the whole story yet...thank you for giving him a chance. But, I get the feeling that's not the only thing bothering you. What's the matter, love? Be honest with me, I can handle it." She smiled softly up at him.
He looked down at her, uncertainty written on his face. A sigh escaped him. "I don't really know how to word this. Karuma...you have family. Blood kin...someone like you. I am happy for you..." his voice dropped to almost a whisper, "but...will you still need me now that you are not alone anymore? I don't want to lose you if we let him into our lives, sweetheart."
Oh god...Sesshomaru. Baring his soul, laying it wide open before her, he voiced his insecurities...and damn if it didn't tug at her heart. She stepped closer to him, standing on tip toe, she wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned into him. His arms came around her and squeezed. She shook her head as she leaned back to look at him. "Silly demon. Now that I have you, I have no intention of letting you escape." She smirked, remembering his words from when they had first gotten together. "I have staked my claim, you are mine demon..." his eyebrows rose as she chuckled. "Sesshomaru, I love you...I feel I was given a second chance at life, just to find you. You are and forever will be the one who I want to spend the rest of my days with...my choice. My place is right beside you, always. I will always need you...it wouldn't matter if my whole family were alive, I would still need you...to my dying breath."
"Karuma...." he whispered, bending and bringing his mouth down on hers. The kiss was passionate, full of longing...his arms lifted her, squeezing her in tightly. He lifted his head and spoke softly. "Remove your barrier, sweetheart. I wish to smell you...I miss your scent."
She chuckled. "You know what happens if I do. Perhaps we should find a nice spot first?...and maybe some water. I am thirsty."
He nodded, lifting his head, he scented the air. "Come, beautiful." He put her down and grabbed her hand again, leading her to the water he had sniffed out. They walked deeper into the dense forest, finding a small stream that wandered through the trees. Karuma dropped to her knees beside it, taking a long drink. The water was crisp and cold...and felt damned good sliding down her throat. To her surprise, Sesshomaru knelt beside her and took a drink himself. She had never seen him drinking before. She turned her head his way and smiled at him.
"Gods, you are beautiful. How is this spot, princess? Is it to your liking? Because I cannot take much more, Karuma. I miss your touch...your taste...your scent. I need you, my love."
Damn...how can I refuse? "Yes, baby. Here is perfect." They sat on a soft, mossy patch by the water. The ground cushioned by the thick green carpet. After his drink, he slid closer to her. Coming in from the side as she sat up. His bent left knee beside her back, his other leg in front of her, he pulled her into him, bending to nuzzle her neck.
"Now, sweetheart...please..." oh yes...she removed the barrier.
He inhaled deeply, a growl rumbling, vibrating her where she came into contact with him...and sending an erotic flash shooting through her. "Yes, beautiful...Mm, you smell exquisite, Karuma. I grow to loathe that damned scent barrier, blocking your intoxicating scent from me." He licked up her neck and nipped the flesh below her ear. Shock waves rioted through her as she bent toward him more.
